For Tim Falcon, rugby is a passion, a calling and a gift, one that has been a part of his life for more than 40 years; and one he’s passed on through his family and generations of young players. The journey continues on a new level with NOLA Gold. Tim first discovered rugby in college at Louisiana State University in 1978. He played as an undergrad through law school and later built his law career and family in the West Bank community of New Orleans. He has been integral to the development of the New Orleans Rugby Football Club, as a prop and captain. Off the field, he has been president and served as Honorable Chairman of the Distinguished Field Committee.
As a coach of high school and youth teams, Tim has introduced rugby to many young athletes, including his own sons, Jarrett, Cameron, and Brennan. Under his leadership, their Shaw High School team won two state championships and a regional title. Tim was the co-founder of Louisiana Rugby, a league that develops and supports high school and youth teams. Tim has traveled extensively on rugby tours and hosted international teams visiting New Orleans. Tim co-hosted the first professional rugby match in America when the London Wasps played the Bristol Shoguns in New Orleans in August 2000.
Tim still boots up to challenge fate and continue his passion for the game on the pitch. Through NOLA Gold, he will create new opportunities for players and coaches, by using rugby as a vehicle to contribute to the New Orleans community he calls home.

New Volunteer Opportunities
1. This has been updated in bold below. Angel Cutno has a friend who is organizing people to participate in supporting small restaurants as well as supporting first responders. The details are simple: you place a catering order with a small business and her friend will identify a group of first responders who have not received a meal (from her sources) recently. Penny Menge and Peter Waring are working on this as well, and Brian Mora has agreed to authorize $1000 in emergency RCNO distribution to help support food delivery to Touro Hospital. Penny has a contact there who will see that the food is equitably distributed among first responders, emergency medical personnel, intensive care unit personnel, etc. etc.
Angel's mother owns a restaurant in Laplace and has agreed to prepare food for delivery. She was doing this out of her own pocket but RCNO will be subsidizing her efforts at $.50 on the dollar. Penny is working on identifying at least several shifts of deliveries and also looking into other medical facilities who may be in need of this kind of support. Rotarians who are interested in helping out should contact Angel or Penny (menge22@cox.net) who are taking lead on this.
2. Hands On New Orleans is partnering with the City for the Serve Our Seniors meal delivery program. It's for those 60 and up or with medical or physical disabilities who are not part of Meals on Wheels or another program. The meals were donated from a disaster relief group out of Washington D.C. called World Central Kitchen.
Volunteers drive their own cars and drop off the meals on recipient’s doorstep. Each volunteer stops by several homes. Volunteers bring meals to seniors every Monday and Thursday. They must be healthy, and it's preferred they have protective gear. St. Xavier’s School/Orphanage is in lockdown mode mandated by India and Sikkim Province.While at last communication there were no COVID-19 cases, in nearby Geyzing, the county seat, the hospital has just reported seven new cases.Ms. Chandra says they need sanitizers, masks, and food. 2. Sonny Lee’s Son of a Saint’s COVID-19 Assistance Fund (www.sonofasaint.org/COVID), is seeking donations to support their mentees, their families, and their program during this time. They would be used for immediate services, like food access and technology for remote education, operational sustainability, so that they are not forced to cut critical programs. 3. Warren Easton is seeking contributions to its student Food Fund to supplement the nutrition needs of its students. The Orleans Parish School Board However, many needy students lack resources to acquire dinner meals. To meet this need, Warren Easton’s Charter Foundation provides student nutrition assistance in the form of grocery store gift cards for students to redeem for food. Contributions to the Food Fund can be made to Warren Easton Charter Foundation, 3019 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119. Donors please identify yourselves as Rotarians.
4. Second Harvest has been in touch with us. Through April 30, Entergy Corporation will match contributions dollar for dollar — up to $75,000!
Business Services.
1. City business reports New Orleans digital marketing firm Search Influence is offering free consulting sessions to businesses impacted by COVID-19.Businesses can sign up at https://www.searchinfluence.com. The sessions are intended to help businesses understand how they can market during the current economic climate and how to plan for the future when consumer behavior begins to normalize.
2. Similarly, City Business reports that another New Orleans firmconsulting sessions in 45-minute virtual sessions.

The Rotary Responds Committee was established to help out in all kinds of emergency situations, here and around the world.
Our One Family at a Time (OFT) effort was set up to help our Family of Rotary and by referrals from our Family for anyone they knew who was in need. We purchased the coolers we have discussed at our meetings so that they could be filled with items that might be needed within a week’s time of a request. Our budget for the items is $35. This policy has since been clarified so that coolers would be used for at-risk situations, and other conditions like less serious illness or death in the family could be dealt with by a card sent by the Club.
The COVID-19 pandemic offers additional opportunities for service. We can continue to use the OFT initiative as appropriate. We also have the possibility of providing a delivery service to those in need.
The City has suggested we get in touch with the Orleans Parish Council on Aging and Second Harvest to see how we might be able to help them. They have counseled us to be cautious about what we offer to do, not only because of the health issues, but because we don’t want to offer something on which we may not be able to deliver. We are reaching out to the Council on Aging and Second Harvest at this time.
