Peace Corps and Charitable Giving

Gabriel Nehrbass has been a Financial Advisor for Edward Jones for the last decade in New Orleans. He is a Certified Financial Planner TM professional that focuses on business and community leaders that want to make an impact in their own lives, in their families, and in the lives of others.

Prior to working for Edward Jones, Gabriel was a professional humanitarian aid worker with Save the Children (2009-14) with assignments in Africa (East and West), Latin America (Central and South), and Asia (Pacific Islands), as well as during his service with the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa (2006-08).

Gabriel earned his bachelor's degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, and a master's degree in international humanitarian action from L'Universite Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. He is fluent in written and spoken French and Spanish, and in the tradition of his great-great-grandparents from Southern Spain, he is an avid artisanal bread baker. In the tradition of his American father and late American grandmother, he is a passionate gardener.

He also serves our community as President of EspaÑOLA (realESPANOLA.org), which focuses on Louisiana's Spanish heritage and promoting Spanish cultural events, and as a board member of UNITY of Greater New Orleans (unityGNO.org), which focuses on housing for our brothers and sisters without a home.

October is Polio Plus Month

In 1985 Rotarians made a promise to the children of the world. We promised them that we would eradicate polio from the face of the earth. On the day that we made that promise there were 125 countries on 5 continents that were polio endemic and during the year of 1985 more than 350,000 children—nearly 1,000 children every single day—were paralyzed by or died as the result of the polio virus. Help us this month to get closer to the eradication.

During October our New Orleans Club will conduct a campaign among its members a here is how you can help.

·         Donate $20 - You will receive a Polio Plus sticker for your name tag

·         Donate $50 - You will receive a red Polio Plus lapel pin

Donate $100 * – Become a Polio Plus Society Member

Please consider joining the Polio Plus Society! This is a program to recognize your gifts and pledges to support Polio Plus *at $100 per year, until polio has been eradicated. For the rest of this year and all of next year your contribution will be matched twice by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

If you can’t give that amount, your contribution is still important to eradicate polio around the world.

Please contact me at 786-223-6095 or make the donation to Tara and we will recognized at what ever level you can support.

Yours in Rotary,

Ernesto Carballo Jr.
Foundation Chairman
Call for Speakers
The Program Committee is seeking members who are interested in helping coordinate speakers for our upcoming meetings. This is a great opportunity to get involved, share ideas, and help shape the engaging programs our club is known for.
We’re also seeking input from all members on the types of speakers and topics you’d like to see in the months ahead. Your suggestions are valued and appreciated!
Please forward all ideas or your interest in joining the committee to Angel Cutno a.chung.cutno@gmail.com
The Four Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:
Of the things we think, say or do:

1.     Is it the TRUTH?

2.     Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3.     Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4.     Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
