Highlights from Summer 2018 Club Assembly
The end of July gave the Sycamore Rotary Club a chance to plan out the upcoming year; the annual Club Assembly on July 25th saw the Club split up into committees, which gave Rotarians an opportunity to see what types of projects are going on and to do something of direct interest to them.

Club President Ray Dembinski says revised committee sheets will be distributed during the month of August; Rotarians will be able to sign up for specific committees and projects, much like we've done in the past.  Feel free to sign up for one or more of these activities; please ask the appropriate committee chair if you have any questions.

The imminent departure of Brian Adams from the Rotary Club means that several positions will have to be filled:

-- Eric Jones will be taking over as the Public Image Director; he will serve as webmaster, manager of the Facebook page and editor of The Spoke.
-- Volunteers are being sought to chair the Operation Warm and Rotarians at Work Days projects
-- Sergeant-at-Arms responsibilities will be handed over to the monthly program committees; they will provide 1 or 2 members to assist with the following tasks:
Set up the flag and club banner(s).
Place and open the Badge Box on the front table.
Place laminated cards on member tables.
Set up the podium, hook up speaker and microphone, set up screen and media cart with projector.
Set up the Rotary Club meeting display board by parking lot entrance.

The committee members will take down and store all these items at the conclusion of the meeting.  Lavarre Uhlken and his wife Connie are normally on hand before and afterwards; and Brian will be available through the end of August, to help with setting up the routine.

There are 4 months (August, October, January, and May) that have 5 Wednesdays in them.  Program committees for these months have the option to schedule a fifth presentation or request that the 5th week be used as either a social event or a make up meeting.  Committees will need to inform The Spoke editor (Eric) of your choice when you submit your monthly program list to him. Informing your club president would be prudent.

Your Club Runner profile sheet will be available at meetings for the next few weeks.  We would like you to complete an initial one or edit an existing copy and submit it to Sally Bruch.

Most Meals on Wheels slots filled, but a few remain
We now have minimum coverage on all of our Meals on Wheels dates during the month of August; at least one Rotarian has signed up for every weekday during the month.

But there are still a few dates with only one Rotarian working; we want to have two signed up each day, to provide backup and extra assistance while delivering meals around Sycamore.

The remaining single-Rotarian dates are August 7, 9, 10, 23, and 31; please contact Ray Dembinski, if you are available to help on any of these days.

Sycamore Rotary to have booth at downtown car show in July
Volunteers will be manning a Rotary booth to be set up in downtown Sycamore, during the annual Fizz Ehrler Memorial Turning Back Time Car Show.  It will be in operation on Sunday, July 29th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rotarians will be watching over the booth and interacting with the public, answering any questions they may have.  Our schedule for the day:
     9:00   Paul Callighan, Lavarre Uhlken
    10:00  Steve Kuhn
    11:00  Marcy Buick
    12:00  Dave McCann
     1:00   Jim Stoddard
     2:00   Renae Wilkinson, Brian Adams
Since parking is at a premium, volunteers are invited to park at either the Pay it Forward House, or at Lavarre Uhlken's house at 315 W. Ottawa Street.

The Rotary display will be on Somonauk Street, in front of the bank.

The Spoke reverting to once-a-week format
Beginning on July 31st, The Spoke will return to publishing once per week; it will now come out exclusively on Tuesdays.

Brian Adams will continue to edit the club newsletter, gradually shifting responsibilities over to Eric Jones.  Special messages will be sent out by the Club President on an as-needed basis.

If you have any problems receiving The Spoke, be sure to check your spam folder; if it isn't present, contact Brian or Eric to ensure prompt delivery of our publication.
