Guest Speaker: Sarah Cain

Historical documents, ranging from incorporation papers to birth and death records, are stored for posterity in the archives at Northern Illinois University...and the Regional History Center is constantly seeking new items to save for future generations.

Sarah Cain is the curator at the Center, working on behalf of NIU and the citizens of DeKalb County to preserve any and all historic documents and items they can locate.  Members of the public are urged to provide anything of historical value which they may possess; the Center is looking for unique items such as photos, records and writings -- but often turns down items of sentimental value, such as family Bibles and personal effects.

She invited the Sycamore Rotary Club to donate any and all documents and artifacts which need to be preserved; the Club will soon be assembling such items, for presentation to the RHC.

Sycamore Rotary welcomes fellow Rotarian from Antigua

Sycamore was pleased to welcome a visiting Rotarian from the island of Antigua; Keith Graham, Sr. from the Antigua Sundown Rotary Club paid a visit to our Club on March 30th, joining his son Keith Graham, Jr. from the DeKalb Rotary Club.  He joined our Club President Russell Bishop in the traditional banner exchange.

Wanted -- tech savvy Rotarians for tech support

The Sycamore Rotary Club is assembling a special task force, to deal with a number of technical problems which have cropped up in the past few weeks.

We have been experiencing problems with both our computer projection system and our sound system; the projector has proven to be incompatible with laptops brought in by some of our speakers, while the speaker and wireless microphone have not been functioning properly.

President-Elect Sue Emberson plans to establish a dedicated Tech Support Committee to deal with such matters in the future; but assistance is needed now, to upgrade our hardware and make our presentations run smoothly.  Anyone with technical expertise is asked to contact Sergeant at Arms Brian Adams at (815) 762-5946, to lend your assistance.

Volunteers sought for Rotarians at Work Day

Volunteers are now being sought for Rotarians at Work Day, to be held on Saturday, May 7th at sites around Sycamore and DeKalb.

This annual project has Rotarians roll up their sleeves and help local not-for-profit agencies which have work that needs to be done.  We will be joining forces with the other Rotary Clubs and New Generations Clubs, pitching in at the following locations:

Rotary Park, Sycamore -- Park Pride Day
Pay it Forward House, Sycamore -- Gardening and yard work
Joiner Cemetery, Sycamore -- clean-up and gardening for Memorial Day
Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association -- interactive garden, and office filing

Please sign up at any Rotary meeting between now and May 4th; all projects will run from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Contact Brian Adams for further information.

Hula for Loota set for Thursday, April 21st

The Sycamore Rotary Club's annual Hula-for-Loota fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday, April 21st; it will be from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Chapel in the Pines in Sycamore.

This annual Hawaiian-themed event is a fundraiser for the Rotary Club's scholarship fund; the featured event is a draw-down raffle, with numbers being removed one-by-one...and the last one drawn, wins the grand prize of $3,000.

There will also be cash and prizes given away throughout the drawing, as well as a 50/50 drawing; tickets for the main drawing are available from Paul Michel.

Officers nominated for Sycamore Rotary Board

Jude Wilbers has been nominated to join the Sycamore Rotary Club's Board of Directors; if elected by the membership, he will begin serving on the Board beginning July 1st.  He would serve as Club President in the 2019-2020 Rotary year.

Also nominated for new terms at the March 23rd Rotary Meeting are incumbent Secretary Sally Bruch, and current Treasurer Michele Jurkovic.

As required under our bylaws, each nomination will be posted for one month; a final vote on these nominees is scheduled to be taken at the April 20th club meeting.
