Relating Well by Listening Well

If there was only one area we could work on to improve our relationships it would be to listen well. It’s the perfect gift we can give people on our Christmas list, and it won’t cost one cent.  Henri Nouwen said this about listening:  “The beauty of listening is that those who are listened to start feeling accepted, start taking their words more seriously, and start discovering their own true selves. Listening is a form of spiritual hospitality by which you invite strangers to become friends, to get to know their inner selves more fully, and even dare to be silent with you."
