Hey there fellow Zoom Rotarians! I want to say how much I appreciate everyone sticking with us and coming on board with the Zoom meetings. Shout out to Leigh for keeping us (mainly me) on task and focused with keeping our meetings going. I did attempt to look more business like by donning a brunette wig and glasses but it scared Deb.
We had another informative and timely presentation this week. Jeff Niebaum from the BBB gave us good information on staying safe in the days of electronic communications. He focused on the resources the BBB has created in our current climate. As everyone is changing to a remote climate in order to stay connected in the business world here are key components.
Be Transparent – Communicate effectively the parameters in which you can function as a business
Be Responsive – Demonstrate purpose and support for your community
Embody Integrity – Continue to approach all business dealings and marketplace transactions with integrity.
Be part of the solution – Encourage employees to take defensive steps to safeguard their health the community’s health.
Facebook has created a business resource hub for small business that will reassure the employees by keeping them up to date.
Stay in touch with customers – share important information using email, social media, websites and video.
Keep yourself safe and informed – follow CDC, mayor and governor communications.
BBB.org can provide the research and information you need before using online services. With so many fake online hackers right now customer reviews are a big help and can be viewed on the site. Positive and negative reviews can be left and/or read there. The BBB Scam tracker is a big resource right now where scams that are active can be viewed. Emails and text messages can reveal whether it is real or scam, look for grammatical errors, bad spelling and also the address of the sender for accuracy and what makes sense. Government released scams are popular now too regarding the stimulus money coming. Do not click on any links. Social Media scams are popular as well, particularly on Facebook. Jeff also mentioned the most vulnerable population for getting trapped into a scam are the younger adults. BBB.org/coronavirus is a site where there is daily information to help navigate this current crisis.

Also, thanks to Tim for communicating to the group that we have cancelled the Honor Roll luncheon due to the Coronavirus crisis. We are working with PlanitOmaha to have a non-event. Tim’s committee will be spearheading that effort as well.

From Cella Quinn: You’ll all be surprised that someone finally gave me a job. I went through the training and became a volunteer tax preparer for AARP who helps low income people with their returns. And now, since AARP has shut down their volunteer program, I’m out of a job. Rather embarrassing to be an unemployed tax preparer in the middle of tax season.
From Brad Burklund: New grandson born this morning. Theodore K Burklund 6lb 13oz. Born in Cleveland Ohio and they chose the hospital over a home birth. LOL
