President's Pen

Thank you to each of the hosts for our Business Networking this week.  We appreciate the opportunity to learn more about what your organization does and the ability to meet with other Downtown Rotary members in a smaller group environment.  These events are an important part of our Rotary Club.  Thank you also to Theresa Contreraz for you hard work in putting the event in place and working with each of the hosts.  I attended the Business Networking lunch at the MICAH House. Jaymes Sime did a great job of hosting and telling us about the programing they provide to families and the partnerships that are available through the cooperative environment at the Charles Lakin Campus in Council Bluffs.  I would encourage each of our members to consider hosting Business Networking if and when the quarterly opportunities are available.
Thank you to: Rotella's Italian Bakery, MICAH House and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital.

Roster Ad Sales
We are printing a new Rotary Roster that will be used in many different ways.  It’s a great opportunity for you to advertise your business to our Rotary membership and it is given out new members at orientation.  In addition, the Roster is available on our website.  Most importantly, this is as a money-maker for our club.

The ad costs are quite reasonable…from $30 up.  Deb Skinner will be reaching out to all members who advertised last year. If you are interested in advertising this year, just email Deb at Debra.skinnner@alegent.org

We’d love to have you participate.

What Tomorrow Brings Oct. 29
Remarkable CNN Hero Razia Jan founded a school for girls in Afghanistan in the face of tremendous pressure to not do so.  She has given hope and a brighter future to the 450 girls enrolled in her school.
Rotary District 5650 would like to issue a special invitation to all Rotarians, their families, and friends of Rotary to view a life-changing documentary that tells the powerful story of the students and teachers at the all-girls Zabuli Education Center.  Proceeds from this event will help fund this remarkable project.
"What Tomorrow Brings" is being presented as an exclusive film viewing and fundraiser.  It will be aired nationally on PBS on October 31st.
Saturday, October 29, 2016 - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Harper Center - Creighton University - 602 North 20th Street - Omaha, NE 68102
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at bit.ly/RRH_Omaha.  You can click here for a flyer about the event.
The event is hosted by the Suburban Rotary Club of Omaha, the Creighton University Multicultural Affairs Office, Omaha Schools Foundation, and Rotary District 5650.
Please join me and your fellow Rotarians for this event and help impact young lives in a place where hope needs a hand.

Miles to End Polio
Miles to End Polio

I have walked, driven, and flown many miles to support the eradication of polio, and now I'm going to ride a bicycle in the Indoor Ride to End Polio taking place in November 2016.  Now, I don't own an indoor bike, and my outdoor bike hasn't been used in two years, but I plan on doing whatever it takes to accomplish my goal of 60 minutes -- I even bought the shirt!

I am a proud member of the #RotaryDistrict5650 Indoor Team!
