Greetings Everyone,
It was a chilly but interesting and fun meeting this week. Thank you to all the brave souls that braved the
cold and attended.
We had a great presentation by Anna Brewer from the Women's Fund of Omaha on
the Sex trafficking in our area. We often feel these kinds of things happen somewhere else but she
showed us many cities all across Nebraska where arrests have been made in these crimes, and explained
that over 900 unique victims are being sold in trafficking in our community every month. This is
happening at your work or right next door in your neighborhood and many times we are the key to
arrests just by being aware, keeping our eyes open and having zero tolerance for this type of activity.
Anna said the best way for us to help is to simply be alert, look for signs and call the hotline so situations
can be investigated. The number to call is 888-373-7888. Anna also gave high praise for the work Rotary
has done with our trafficking education program this year and stated that over 100 hotels have had their
staff trained in what to look for to stop this activity. Thank you Anna and thank you Cella for another
great and informative program.
Shout out to Taylor Wineland and her crew for finding us another great service opportunity to give back
to the homeless that are at risk in our city, and thank you to club members for stepping up to engage in
this opportunity to help. Great work!!
Big Thanks to Lori Bechtold for filling in for Leigh this week and keeping our meeting on track and also to Bill Harvey for stepping in for me last week.
It is about time to give updates on our engagement challenge so get engaged, bring a guest, attend a
social event, make your donation to Rotary international. Help us reach our goal of 100% club member
participation in donating to RI in any amount this year. Let's make a difference in our community and in
our world.
Thanks and Have a Great week!
Brad
