For nearly 100 years the Rotary Club of Omaha has honored Omaha youth by way of the yearly Honor Roll Luncheon. The Rotary Honor Roll, a time-honored tradition, distinguishes 8th grade students who represent this highest characteristics of leadership, character, scholarship & presence. This criterion has been the litmus test since the awards inception in the early 1900’s. The luncheon has also been a platform to award scholarships to chosen graduating seniors who, just 4 years earlier, were 8th grade Honor Roll recipients.

Out of an abundance of caution related to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the Rotary Club of Omaha has cancelled this year’s in-person luncheon originally scheduled at CHI Health Center Omaha on May 6, 2020. The reality of this decision is based on current social distancing & statewide mandates. Rotary’s global standard four way test based on truth, fairness, build goodwill and better friendships and beneficial to all was also used in making this decision.

The Rotary Club of Omaha will honor this year’s recipients in the following way:
  • Listing of all 2020 8th grade Honor Roll recipients on the Rotary Club of Omaha website
  • Media recognition (specific date/time to come)
  • Certificates for all 2020 8th grade Honor Roll recipients
  • Nameplates for all 2020 8th grade Honor Roll recipients and an additional plaque (if necessary)
Here’s what you can expect from the Rotary Club of Omaha:
  • Rotary will issue a payment refund to schools who previously paid via check/cash. Refunds from Rotary will be made by check & sent to the school. If you purchased tickets online, those will be refunded through LocalStubs.
  • Certificates for all 2020 8th grade Honor Roll recipients as well as the traditional plaque nameplates will be mailed to respective schools via US Mail on Friday, May 08. If requested, an additional plaque will also be mailed to the school.
  • An open line of communication to address questions or concerns via email. Please send all email correspondence to Victoria Baltimore,

Thank you for your patience as the 2020 Honor Roll Luncheon adapts to current social distancing standards. Your students are commended for their outstanding achievements to date and their ability to adapt to standards of the moment. We encourage you to post your Honor Roll students with their certificates on social media platforms using the hashtag #RotaryHonorRoll. We fully anticipate the Honor Roll Luncheon to resume in 2021.

Highest appreciation,

Camille Metoyer Moten
President, Rotary Club of Omaha
