July 21, 2021 Speaker Scott Hazelrigg
Scott Hazelrigg Bio - 2021
President, NorthStar Foundation

In November 2009, the NorthStar Foundation secured a partnership with the nation’s leading provider of learning expeditions in nature, Outward Bound USA. Together, NorthStar and Outward Bound worked to establish the Omaha Outward Bound School and have worked with over 13,000 students since 2010.  This is the only co-educational element of the NorthStar Program.

Scott Hazelrigg holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska- College of Law (1995) and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas Christian University (1991). He is a former elected member of the Westside Community Schools Board of Education (1998-2016) having served as President of the Board three times during his tenure. President's Pen

Rotarians, I hope you all survived the recent storm with limited or no damage.  Many members of the Omaha community who were impacted are recovering from the City’s latest storm so please keep our community members in your thoughts. Also, as true Rotarians, think about how you can help those in need and live our motto of Service Above Self.

I would like to offer a few special “Shout outs”:

Special thanks to our amazing speaker last week, the wonderful and fellow Rotarian, Tom Gouttierre. Tom gave a wonderful presentation about the ever-changing Middle East (and thanks to Jesse for working on the slides).

John Sullivan for opening up his home and allowing us to celebrate our club reaching our Rotary Foundation goal! It was a lovely event. Attendees had a great view of Jazz on the Green and sipped tasty margaritas.

Lindy Hoyer, Lisa  Tonjes Mortiz, and Theresa Contreraz for helping to assemble approximately 60 baskets for the P4K Organization.

Jim Scott Miller did his thing on the piano and played one of the best renditions of God Bless America to date!

Also, don’t forget the challenge Heather Legge has laid before us which is for each member to give $25.00 to the Rotary Foundation. As President, I led the way and have given my $25.00 toward our club goal of EREYC!  Please feel free to give your donation next week. I am sure Yolanda will happily collect from you.

Finally, if you have not signed up for a volunteer opportunity, there is still time and so much to do!

See you on Wednesday!

Aileen Warren
Jazz on the Green Event
Big thanks to Immediate Past President John and Pat Sullivan for hosting us at the Jazz on the Green Paul Harris Fellow Night recently to celebrate our success in our fundraising drive for the Rotary International Foundation. Our Rotary International Foundation 2020-2021results are $7,380 for polio, $18,685 for annual fund and $26,065 combined. Thank you, Heather Legge, Bill Harvey, and Brad Burklund, who led the campaign all year long. Annual Fund total is a Rotary Club of Omaha all-time record. Polio Plus total is a Rotary Club of Omaha ten-year high. Thank you, Rotarians!
Rotary Weekly Meeting Broadcast
ANNOUNCEMENT: Our weekly Rotary meeting is being broadcasted live via Facebook from the moment the meeting is called to order until the meeting is adjourned. Broadcasting our meeting was recently discussed at the board meeting, and we want to make sure that all members are aware. Broadcasting our meeting is a great way to share with the community who we are and what we do as Rotarians. This also means that all of our meeting content should be good for public viewing. The weekly broadcast can be viewed at this link: https://www.facebook.com/omaharotary.
Service Above Self Opportunity
Service Above Self Chair Lindy Hoyer sent out an email about a Service Above Self opportunity with Brush Up. Check your email for details, or click here to sign up. This project will count for the community service requirements for Red Badge members. For questions, please contact Lindy Hoyer at lhoyer@ocm.org.
Rotary Owl
Because of the overwhelming response from Rotarians to conduct a hybrid meeting going forward, the club purchased Meeting Owl Pro. The Meeting Owl Pro is a premium 360-degree camera, mic, and speaker combined into one easy-to-use device. It creates the experience of in-person participation for hybrid teams and integrates seamlessly with the conferencing platforms that our club is using. The Owl has an 18-foot radius audio pick-up and it works great with the size of our group.
Happy Birthday, Rotarians!
