As suggested by Nebraska Medicine and in a proactive effort to limit possible exposure to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Omaha Downtown Rotary Club has decided to cancel meetings for the month of March.
We will re-evaluate in two weeks and communicate any future meeting plans.
It was Great to be back at the podium this week and have the power of the gavel back in my hand. Thanks Camille for the opportunity to step in, I wasn't sure if I would be invited back this soon. LOL, Deb led off with a good St. Patrick's day joke that could have gone either way, but she pulled it off perfectly as a well seasoned entertainer. Thanks Deb.
It was another great speaker thanks to the Lloyds. John Glenn the Vice President of development for Madonna Rehabilitation hospitals came and gave us an amazing update on the Hospital and all they have going on. The amazing resources and facilities in health care we have right here in Omaha never cease to amaze me, and it is such a terrific asset for our region. Madonna is ranked in the top 2% of hospitals nationwide in complex rehabilitation cases and in the top 3% for achieving results that prevent re-hospitalization. The Omaha campus opened in 2016 and is in the process of expanding to add an additional clinic to handle the growing need for outpatient care. The hospitals currently have an approximate economic impact of over $125 million dollars per year on our economy. The research and collaboration for developing and introducing cutting edge care have also put Omaha in the spotlight as researchers and students come from schools across the nation including Duke, Harvard, UCLA, and many others to work on projects. We are very fortunate to have such a great facility right here in our backyard.
We all share the concerns with all the virus developments gripping our community and nation at the current time and encourage all members to be cautious but not paranoid in your daily activities. I think the code phrase for the week is "soap and water" I hope everyone has a great week and enjoys a fantastic St. Patrick's day.
