Zürich, Basel, the Ardennes: Origin and meaning of selected European toponyms Abstract: Numerous toponyms of Central and Western Europe have no native etymologies, i.e. cannot be explained within German or Germanic or even within Indo-European. For some of them, interpretations can be found in Basque. Every one of these provides support for the Vasconic Theory, which says that the Basque-speaking territory extended to Central Europe in prehistoric times. Examples to be discussed will be the names of Zürich, Basel, and the Ardennes, together with related names. |

“How Artificial Intelligence is transforming medicine” (subtitle: by Wieland Sommer, founder of Smart Reporting GmbH).
Background: Artificial Intelligence will lead to a fast disruption in many industries. Especially in medicine, large amounts of data and images hold a huge potential for AI to change current workflows. Diagnostic medicine, like radiology and pathology will be one of the first field for AI-algorithms to enter the field. While the last decades were characterized by fast developments of hardware (like MRI or CT scanner), the next years will show fast development of software algorithms which provide better quantifications and data about the individual patient.
About Prof. Dr. med. Wieland Sommer Wieland Sommer has been working as a professor in radiology at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich. He is also the founder of a fast-growing healthcare company, Smart Reporting GmbH, which is bringing artificial intelligence into the workflow in medicine. He holds a master in Public Health from the Harvard University and has been elected by the magazine “Capital” as one of “Top 40 below 40”. |

“Mediation and Arbitration – Alternative (and Better??) Tools to Settle Disputes instead of Court Litigation”
Too many times controversies and disputes, which arise and cannot be settled amicably, are taken to court, since litigation seems to be the only promising recipe to get the dispute resolved. This is not only true for natural persons, but also for companies, institutions, and other commercial or non-commercial entities. The presentation of friend Schaefer will focus on a corporate/commercial international environment, provide explanations, what the differences are between mediation and arbitration proceedings, their pros and cons compared to ordinary court proceedings and will introduce certain existing alternative dispute resolution schemes, where companies and their management may benefit from, plus provide some concrete examples of successful ADR proceedings.”
