In this year the Rotary International President Stan Mc Caffrey from California, USA had as his theme "World Understanding and Peace, through Rotary" It was a most fitting theme for our District Governor that year, Governor Dave Mundy, who as a retired pilot and Major in the United States Air Force, had played his part in the maintaining of peace in the world. Governor Dave's District Conference was held at Aruba and it was an outstanding Conference due to the extended efforts of the members of Governor Dave's Wayne Club and the Rotarians from Aruba. One of the highlights of the Conference was the wind sail ride by Harry Litterest, the President of the Paramus Club as he sailed a hundred feet or so over the crowded beach of Rotarians and their guests in honor of Dave and his career in the Air Force.

Governor Dave had as his key staff members, Harvey Weinberg as his Secretary, John Hartman as his Treasurer, Bob Dalzell as his Chief Rep, and Ed Likman as his Senior Rep. Governor Dave was the first Governor from the Wayne Club, followed a few years later by Bob Dalzell, and the Wayne Club showed their pride in Governor Dave by making him both a Paul Harris Fellow and a Walter Head Fellow in 1982.

Activities in the District that year included the New Jersey Vocational Seminar, the annual Interclub meeting, the President's ball and the other yearly activities of the District. The International Convention was held in Dallas Texas.

Governor Dave's visit to his home club was featured by the presentation to him by his club of a banner "King David returns"

Governor Dave with his post military position as a director of the YMCA in Wayne also motivated support for the youth programs of the District during his year in office.

The District members provided Governor Dave with a military salute at the end of his year for ajob well done.
