River Edge Rotary Club
Governor Tony was our fIrst Governor from the River Edge Rotary Club and he entered his year as Governor with a determination to develop a more efficient and business like approach to the running of our District. In some respects Governor Tony succeeded. In other respects changes in Rotary are slow in the making, which is to the satisfaction of many Rotarians and to the dissatisfaction of others.
Governor Tony had as his key staff members, Dave Mundy as his Secretary, John Hartman as his Treasurer, and Bob Dalzell as his Chief of Staff. All of these offIcers later served as the District Governor of our District.
The year's activities included the annual participation in the New York Vocational Assembly at the Waldorf Hotel, the District Boat ride on the Hudson, the Fair Lawn Club sponsored Interclub meeting at Paramus, and the President's Ball at the Westmont Country Club. Governor Tony continued District support of the youth programs, the Rotary Foundation and the Walter Head Foundation. He also continued to support the District film library program during his year.
Governor Tony's District Conference was an innovation, as we crossed the Atlantic and had our Conference at Marbella, Spain. Jack Rosen, as the District's travel coordinator worked night and day to make this Conference an unforgettable experience, with added sideline trips to a number of exciting locations to include a ferry ride to Africa.
In addition to this opportunity for our members for a trip to Europe the International Convention was held in Rome, Italy this year allowing a second opportunity. ClemRenouf from Queensland, Australia was the Rotary International President and he was well represented by Geoff Pike from England at our District Conference in Spain. It was indeed an exciting year.
