Governor Ira was able to find time from his active role at the manager of the Kodak plant in Fairlawn and an active role in the community to include his role as the Bergen County United Way President, an elder at the Old Paramus Church in Ridgewood, and as a member of the commission to revise the Bergen County Charter, to serve as our District Governor.

The International President was Richard L. Evans of Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. President Evans was known worldwide as the voice of the Mormon Tabernacle. The International Convention was held at Nice, France.

During Governor Ira's year two interact clubs were started in Union City, but the highlight of his year was the adoption of the resolution starting the Walter Head Foundation, with Governor Ira and Nick Laganella of the Paramus Club serving as the Foundation founders.

The District Conference was a memorable event at the Concord Hotel in the Catskills in New York, despite the early spring snow that cancelled out the golf tournament. Unfortunately no club records exist covering the other activities of this very active year in our District history.
