Clifton Rotary Club
Milton (Uncle Milty) Johnson served the District as our Governor in this year under the theme of "Bridge the Gaps" of Rotary International President William Walke Jr. from California, USA. The International Convention was held in Sydney, Australia.
His key staff members were Carmine Torsiello as his Secretary, John Hartman as his Treasurer, and Ed Gehringer his Chief Rep.
District activities included the annual football game at West Point, The New York Vocational Assembly held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, the Interclub Fellowship Luncheon sponsored by the Fair Lawn Club and held in Paramus, the District picnic held at the Paramus Boy's Club, and the President's Ball.
The District Conference was held at Norfolk, Virginia, where an active Conference was held with side trips to Williamsburg, the Norfolk Navel Base, and the McArthur Memorial. One of the highlights of the year was the Group Study Exchange with an Australian District, with Ira Mitchell serving as the chairman and Angie Morendo as the team leader.
The District Walter Head Foundation, which had been created in 1966, was given greater emphasis and support given to the Youth Exchange program.
Governor Milt's steady and reassuring matter served the District well during this period of "Bridging the Gaps" between the clubs in the District and around the world.
