As this year’s coordinator for RYLA(Rotary Youth Leadership Award) 2017 it is with great pleasure that our District will be holding RYLA at New Jersey City University(NJCU) in Jersey City.   The dates are Sunday June 25th

through Wednesday June 28th.  This program offers a concentrated program of leadership and motivational training to 90 of our District’s high school juniors.  Interspersed throughout the week are programs on Rotary philosophies and community/world service projects with an emphasis on servant leadership.  A real push this year is for more Rotarian interaction with the candidates especially during lunchtime round table sessions each day.  Interpersonal skills without the assistance of technology,(ie smart phones), will be emphasized in preparation for college and/or job interviews.  The students this year will get to experience living on a college campus.  As the week progresses various groups work on the following projects: talent show, week book, public speaking, photography and creative writing.  RYLA closing ceremonies will take place Wednesday evening at NJCU where the candidates will have the opportunity to present a closing ceremony program to their family and Rotarians.

As you can see, the week is very busy and comprehensive in what we are trying to accomplish.  RYLA is a self-funding program where we depend solely upon the participating Rotary Clubs to support their chosen students. This year’s conference can only accommodate 90 candidates and will surely fill up quickly.  Clubs are being encouraged to reserve ASAP.  I invite all Rotarians to come up and spend the day, contribute, and experience the magic!

The RYLA committee asks that if your club has not yet committed to this great program, please do so and offer a local high school junior student the experience of a lifetime.

We are looking for energetic Rotarians who enjoy working with youth to join the RYLA committee!
