Ute Turner Bio and more!
The Thursday night gathering of the Lunies got off to a great start as Marc and Gerda Faye were in the house and got us to sing a reasonable rendition of our Rotary song. Thanks Marc! Happy dollars had lots of thanks for the recent good weather, but a number of thoughts and prayers for the tragedy in Haiti. President Cass talked about several programs that Rotary has for young adults to get involved (Camp Royal, etc.) but wanted to get feedback on LV hosting an exchange student in the coming year. More info coming but if you have an interest, let Cass know. There are several District Assemblies coming up (listed on the Website) so please try to get to one as they really are a great way to meet other Rotarians and learn about how Rotary works and all the great stuff we do! Dexter needs some muscle to help load the Tanzania container on Feb 12 in the afternoon. Let him know if you can help. Our program was a member bio from Ute Turner. It was so good she only made to 1963 in her incredible story. Ute was born in what would eventually become East Germany and she told about how her family got started, their businesses, living in Nazi Germany, and then in East Germany controlled by the Russians. At one point her family was almost shipped off to a Siberian prison, but were spared. She told us how her father was able to escape to the West and came back one night late to meet up with her mother and how she had to jump off a 24 foot bridge (at age 3) to escape to freedom! Thanks Ute for sharing!
