President Tom thanking Yolo County Assistant DA Diane Ortiz on her program that gave us some insight into the reasoning, implementation and practice, of the District Attorney’s Office new Data Driven Intervention unit.

Yolo County Assistant DA Diane Ortiz gave our program tonight on the DA's Data driven Intervention Unit.

Diane has gone on “ride alongs” with the different yolo county police and sheriff departments to get a handle on what they face in the field. A real eye opener for her, to the dangers and decisions made by our peace officers.
The DDI unit involves collaboration between the police and the District Attorney’s Office to focus law enforcement resources on excessive repeat offenders, then works with agencies and probation to devise the most effective outcomes.
They are looking at what drives crime and how to prevent specific problems that each community faces. The unit is reaching out to all Police Departments in the Yolo County jurisdiction, and also collaborating with outside law enforcement agencies to collect and share data by investigation, social media scraping, auditing jail phone calls an asking for voluntary security camera registry. With this collaborative effort, they don’t want to just prosecute they want to also prevent crime.
