Tom "Ramblin' Man" Caldwell delivers his Bio!
Pres Cass used some creativity to devise a podium this week and after the pledge and song had Susan introduce our guests - Avonell Cook and her mom, David Baine from PHS, and Carey Sullivan (who will be our program next week). Cass recapped Luna Vista receiving the City of Woodland Community Service Award last week and passed the award for all to see. Charlene announced exciting news that LV has 4 (count em 4!) new Paul Harris fellows - Ron, Cass, Craig, and Michelle - Congratulations!! Also a good group of Lunatics went to the Capay Valley Charter Night celebration and a good time (if a bit chilly) was had by all. Happy Dollars was fun as always as Sheriff Doug worked the crowd. The highlight was Tom Caldwell birthday donation followed by a bell ringing donation to the Foundation! Way to go Tom! Our 4 way test speech winner, Avonell Cook, gave her speech to us. We learned she is a student at Pioneer High School and is the current president of the Skills USA group with a focus on computers. In her speech, she contrasted the lessons she has learned as a member of Skills USA with the 4 way test. Good luck Avonell! Our program was Tom Caldwell's bio. Tom informed us that speaking about himself was difficult as he was raised to not boast about himself. So Tom talked a lot about his family who came to Woodland in the 1870s, his grandfather who was in the original graduating class at Woodland high school in 1898, help found the Fliers club, and built the original Holy Rosary Academy when it was on Main street. But Tom did sneak in a few tidbits about himself like his involvement with the first Woodland swim club and getting lapped (no pun intended) by a younger Mark Spitz. We also heard he attended several colleges, got married and moved to Idaho where he brought in 69 lbs. of medicinal crops. Unfortunately we ran out time so hopefully Tom can come back and let us know how the rest turns out! Tom and his wife are taking off on a trip for 18 months back to Virginia to work on some family homes and also a Habitat for Humanity project in Florida. Good luck Tom!
