We get a visit from the VP of the High Schools and get an update from the Eagle Scout we are helping.

President Vinnie welcomed a hearty group for our meeting along with some visitors including Barbara Fleck (a Luna Vista charter member) who is a member of the Noon Clubs along with special guests who were doing the presentations tonight.  Announcements included the Black History event in Guinda this coming weekend along with the Noon club annual Dinner/Auction on February 23rd.  Happy Dollars included lamenting the outcome of the Super Bowl (Cass sez she could have run the ball in at the end of the game!), along with Valentines Day thoughts and references to a couple of sharp shoe choices (Ruth & Doug).  Nick also let us know that Clint had hooked up with a new club.  We had a quick update from Trevor Engle who is working towards his Eagle Scout award.  He showed us his progress at the Woodland Library and the refurbishing of several exhibits there.  Trevor's dad was also in attendance and added some insight on the project.  Doug gave a quick update on the dueling banner projects at the fairgrounds and downtown.  The fairgrounds is further along but has some logistic problems on the placement.  We are still getting some feedback from the City on the downtown placement and the use of the banners.  Our program was presented by Raylene Ewing who is the Vice Principal (now known as the Learning Community Director) for both Woodland and Pioneer high schools.  She touched on a couple of subjects for upcoming initiatives at the schools.  The first involves bringing community members in for one-on-one discussions with every 9th & 10th grade child on their plans post high school and what options may be available to them to assist them  In support of this she is looking for volunteers to meet with the kids on February 25th or 26th during the hours between 8:00 - 3:15.  Raylene also discussed a new program called Common Core that is being rolled out among almost every state in the union to align curriculum across the states.  This will also include the testing as follow up for this new program.  Thank you Raylene for a very informative presentation.

Soon to be newlyweds Ron & Petra
