The first meeting of 2012 is a good one with lots of fellowship and a great program on WWII & JFK
Our first regular  meeting of 2012 got off to a great start as we welcomed back former member Tom Caldwell who was in town and announced he would be rejoining Luna Vista later this year as he would be moving back to Woodland in April.  The club received a very nice thank you note from the Yolo County Nursery for the supplies donated at Christmas time.  We also heard sad news that former member Howard Plank was gravely ill.  Vinnie was the high bidder on a holiday basket and folks from Citizens Who Care were on hand to accept our donation from the Oktoberfest event and thank us for including them in our great event!  Our program was a wonderful account about WWII from Ted Robinson who was a Radar Officer on PT Boat 118 and was part of the group that rescued John Kennedy when his PT boat was rammed during the war.  After that he shared a tent with JFK for several months discussing politics (not much) and family (mostly mom).  Ted also said JFK was very smart, very curious about everything, and didn't discuss much about girls while they were together.  One item Ted saw that he thinks became part of JFK;s presidency was he involvement with a local tribal chief on the island whose people has a life expectancy of 35,  From this he believes the idea of the Peace Corp was born.  Ted gave several accounts of JFK's courage under fire and Ted's account of this interesting time in history had a number of members buying his book accounting all these stories.
