National Night Out
Come and join us at the annual National Night Out event, Aug 1st, from 5pm to 8pm, at Tiger Stadium.  This event is hosted by our local safety departments as an opportunity to learn about crime and drug prevention as well as to meet and greet the men and women who serve, protect and respond to emergencies in our communities.  There will be food, music, and fun at this event, so come on out and support our safety forces.
Twins Days

Twins Days will be Aug 4th, 5th and 6th this year.

The Rotary Club of Twinsburg  will be serving a hotdog dinner to the arriving twins and their families on Aug 4th from 4pm to 8pm at the Twinsburg High School Commons area.  This is a ongoing community service project.

The Rotary Club of Twinsburg will also be operating the Beer Garden at the Twins Days festival on Aug 5th and 6th at Glen Chamberlin Park in Twinsburg.  This fund raiser will provide funding for the local and Rotary service projects and youth programs.

Mark your calendar for these events to support the club and Rotary!

August is Membership and Extension Month

This month is Rotary’s Membership and Extension Month, and while we are reaching the end of the month, I felt that we should all think about what this means. Membership and Extension is an ongoing part of being a Rotarian so we do not confine ourselves to making an effort on membership during August only. But was does having more members really mean?

     • Is it to make the President look good?
     • Is it to beat other clubs by having the most members?
     • Is it to “Enrich your life by meeting people from different backgrounds”

The first two are probably the end result of having a strong membership, but not the reason. The third one is a quote from Rotarian Andro Bottse from the Rotary club of Amsterdam-Arena. This is a very poignant message about the opportunities that exist within our organization; this is not just about the international opportunities but also about what exists within our own community.  Twinsburg is a richly diverse city with people from many cultures and walks of life who could make great Rotarians.

Rotary International has a statement on diversity; Rotary International recognizes the value of diversity within individual clubs. Rotary encourages clubs to assess those in their communities who are eligible for membership, under existing membership guidelines, and to endeavor to include the appropriate range of individuals in their clubs. A club that reflects its community with regard to professional and business classification, gender, age, religion and ethnicity is a club with the key to the future.

Remember - "Make A Difference" - when you share with your acquaintances and invite them to serve with you in Rotary!

Prepare Your Club for Growth

Do your members look forward to your next meeting? Are most of your guests joining your club? If your answer to either question is "no," it’s time to find out why and change it!

Every club strives to increase their membership roster and is successful by gaining a new member now and then. But do those members stay? If not, why not? If new members generally don’t stay with a club, the club is not meeting their needs. For continuous membership growth, make your club worth belonging to! Start by evaluating your club using the Moments of Truth analysis.

After the inventory is compiled you have a benchmark – a starting point for club improvements in every factor needed to sustain growth. Let's begin...

Rotary Foundation Thought

This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about Matching Grants.

Henning Sorknaes has no trouble remembering his proudest Rotary moment. It was taking part in a community service project supported by several Rotary clubs to help restore a hospital in Senta, Serbia. The hospital, which serves a population of about 150,000, mostly ethnic Hungarian Serbians, lacked modern technical equipment and was barely surviving on a mixture of public and private funds. The grant helped fund a US$1.2 million project to equip and train staff to make the hospital‘s cardiology department fully operational.

The ABC's of Rotary

Public Relations of Rotary

Historically, Rotarians perpetuated a myth that Rotary should not seek publicity, but rather let our good works speak for themselves. A 1923 policy stating that “publicity should not be the primary goal of a Rotary club in selecting an activity” of community service was frequently interpreted to mean that Rotary clubs should avoid publicity and public relations efforts. Actually, the 1923 statement further observed that “as a means of extending Rotary’s influence, proper publicity should be given to a worthwhile project well carried out.”

A more modern public relations philosophy was adopted in the mid-i 970s that affirms that “good publicity, favorable public relations, and a positive image are desirable and essential goals for Rotary’ if it is to foster understanding, appreciation, and support for its Object and programs and to broaden Rotary’s service to humanity. Today, most Rotarians recognize that active public relations is vital to the success of Rotary.

A service project well carried out is considered one of the finest public relations messages of Rotary. It is essential that Rotary clubs make every effort to inform the public of such projects.

As Rotary clubs and districts consider effective public relations, it is important to remember that when Rotarians think of Rotary, we think of our noble goals and motives. But when the world thinks of Rotary, it can only think of our actions and the service we have performed.

Opportunities to give service

The club has fundraisers and service events coming up!

Give our Club all the support you can to make it successful.  We need all cylinders firing!!!  Please do what you can to serve our club.  If you not being asked to serve the club, ask where you can help!

Participate in Every Rotarian Every Year.  Any amount you can contribute will help the success of Rotary International in your community and around the world.  Let's try to become a 100% EREY club, where every member contributes something to the Rotary Foundation, either directly or through the club.

Think of another way in which you could serve our club, or help a committee chair with some of their responsibilities.  Abby and Kathy are assembling the team for this Rotary year.  Help them in any way that you can, even if you have not been asked.

Participation is the key to an effective club!!!!

Serve Early, Serve Often!
