This month is Rotary’s Membership and Extension Month, and while we are reaching the end of the month, I felt that we should all think about what this means. Membership and Extension is an ongoing part of being a Rotarian so we do not confine ourselves to making an effort on membership during August only. But was does having more members really mean?

     • Is it to make the President look good?
     • Is it to beat other clubs by having the most members?
     • Is it to “Enrich your life by meeting people from different backgrounds”

The first two are probably the end result of having a strong membership, but not the reason. The third one is a quote from Rotarian Andro Bottse from the Rotary club of Amsterdam-Arena. This is a very poignant message about the opportunities that exist within our organization; this is not just about the international opportunities but also about what exists within our own community.  Twinsburg is a richly diverse city with people from many cultures and walks of life who could make great Rotarians.

Rotary International has a statement on diversity; Rotary International recognizes the value of diversity within individual clubs. Rotary encourages clubs to assess those in their communities who are eligible for membership, under existing membership guidelines, and to endeavor to include the appropriate range of individuals in their clubs. A club that reflects its community with regard to professional and business classification, gender, age, religion and ethnicity is a club with the key to the future.

Remember - "Make A Difference" - when you share with your acquaintances and invite them to serve with you in Rotary!
