Club News: January 19th, 2022
Fellow Rotarians,
* As I am sure you are aware, the number of positive COVID cases in our community has increased considerably. In last week's board meeting it was determined that for the time being we will not be eating lunch at our noon meetings.   To be clear, this includes ordered lunch as well as "bring your own."

We will require that everyone attending the meeting wear a mask at all times. I expect that for some this will be frustrating, but we want to take every step we can to continue in-person meetings and avoid going virtual.   We will continue to monitor the case numbers in our community and hope to get back to "normal" in the next few months.    Thank you for your patience and understanding.

* Last week we had an excellent planning session.   More information will be coming as the committees pull together their plans for the coming months.

* This week's speakers are Charles Brown and Ari Penner from the Ronald McDonald House Charity of KC. They will tell us about how they keep families together during times of illness and what volunteer opportunities are available.
Hope to see you Wednesday.

Global Scholarship Grants 2022

District 6040 is getting ready to start a new cycle for Global Scholarship Grants for students traveling in the 2022-2023 academic year (AY23) and Rotary fiscal year. The AY23 academic year would include travel for fall of 2022 through the spring and summer of 2023.

The District 6040 Global Grant Scholarship committee would like to ask you to notify your membership about these opportunities. While these scholarships are not available to Rotarians or their families, one of the best approaches is to identify key college and university contacts who may be able to inform students.

JANUARY: Vocational Service Month

Shekhar Mehta, RI President 2021-22

January 2022:     One of Rotary’s founding principles was to use your vocation — whether as a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or another profession — to do good in the world.  As we attempt to overcome and recover from the pandemic, this principle is vital in retraining people who have lost their jobs. In response, the Rotary E-Club of Tamar Hong Kong organized seminars for young people, with the aim of preparing them for the changing world of work.

This type of training must happen on a large scale. According to the United Nations, global unemployment is expected to exceed 200 million people in 2022. Women and youths are likely to be disproportionately affected.
