Supporting RI president Ian Riseley and his initiative to improve the environment with 1.2M trees, our club planted 26 trees in conjunction with Liberty Parks & Rec at the Fairview Cemetery. Holes were dug, trees planted and mulched. These trees will look beautiful over the coming years. Liberty's historic cemeteries got a little greener and a little shadier (although the latter may take a few years to fully come to fruition!). We planted: 3 Shantung Maple 7 Autumn Blaze Maple 3 Merlot Redbud 3 Star Magnolia 5 Cleveland Pear 5 Northern Red Oak If you stop by or take a walk through the cemetery, you'll see the new trees lining the perimeter of the cemetery along Shrader Street and Terrace Avenue. Additional trees were planted within the cemetery on Ruth and Jacob roads. As the saying goes, many hands make light work. With 14 Rotarians and Parks staff, all the trees were planted and mulched in under three hours!
