We received many interesting nominations for our 2021 Leadership Award - it came down to the tiniest details to decide who made a "better" or "bigger" difference in the lives of children and/or youth.

More about Mieko:

Mieko Ouchi is a playwright, actor, and director. Her plays, The Red Priest (Eight Ways To Say Goodbye), The Blue Light, The Dada Play, Nisei Blue, I Am For You, Consent and The Silver Arrow have been nominated for many awards, including the Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama and the City of Edmonton Book Prize. At the centre of her career is Mieko’s theatrical and educational work with children and youth. Mieko is a co-founder and has been in artistic leadership positions at Concrete Theatre, a nationally recognized Theatre for Young Audiences touring company for its entire 31 years. As a director, her work spans theatre for children and youth as well as work for adults including: After Juliet (Citadel Young Company), Harun and Concord Floral (University of Alberta and Edmonton Fringe Festival) and Bello (Young People’s Theatre - YPT), I Am For You, Apples and Oranges, Routes (YPT, Persephone Theatre), Are We There Yet? (YPT, Persephone) and The Incredible Adventures of Mary Jane Mosquito (National Arts Centre, Grand Theatre, Kids on the Waterfront) all for Concrete Theatre, The Tashme Project (MAI Montreal), Ghost Sonata (RDC), The Cloister (Summerworks) and many others. Recently completed and upcoming projects include A Brimful of Asha for the Citadel, a national and international tour of the groundbreaking ASL/Sung English Family Opera Songs My Mother Never Sung Me for Concrete, Alberta Kitchen Party for Alberta Theatre Projects, and the premiere of her new play Burning Mom at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre. In November, Mieko stepped down as Artistic Director at Concrete Theatre to become the new TD Associate Artistic Director at the Citadel Theatre.
