Last week’s recap & this week’s speaker Sept. 8 - 15, 2022
 
 
 
Last week we had a full agenda, and a full house with guest from near and flags from far. We welcomed our Rotary Youth Exchange student, Rohil Saraf from India as he presented a great presentation to introduce himself.  He was accompanied by his host mom. Thank you to Andy and Alex for the work you are doing with our Youth Exchange students. Also visiting from India we had 
Mahendra Mali, who will be with us through the end of this month as he's here visiting his daughter at Santa Clara University.  Another special guest that came baring gifts and a flag from Kharkhiv, Ukraine was Rusian Alikperov. Our past members from TX, Bill Carver and Bob Ricks were also in attendance. We may have had more  guest, but I was blinded by all on the bright legs, with 10 members in shorts. I think they were making an end of summer fashion statement.

Before hearing from our guest speaker we congratulated our August Rotarian of the Month, Harbir Kaur Bhatia.
 
Our Guest speaker was  Ken Toren from the American Red Cross. Also in attendance supporting him was our District 5170 Membership Chairperson, Camilla Boolootian. Attached is his entire Power-point presentation.
 
  • The Santa Clara Art and Wine Festival September 17 - 18 at Central Park.is this weekend
  • Coming right after is the Oct. 1st Santa Clara Parade of Champions. Be sure to check in with Colleen on helping with building and decorations for our float and Harbir for working the booth the day of the parade. We will need all hands on deck.

Major General Kent Hillhouse
 
Graduating from San Jose State in ’66, Major General Kent Hillhouse, USA (Ret.) was commissioned as a Cavalry branched officer. He served with the 11th Armor Cavalry Regiment in Viet Nam from ’67-’68. Upon returning, he was assigned to a U.S. Army Reserve Division, the 91st Infantry Division (training), where he served in numerous command and staff positions culminating in the command of the Division. For his terminal assignment, Kent served as the Deputy G-1 on the Army staff in the Pentagon from ’96 – ’01. Kent is presently working in commercial real estate and resides with his wife in Los Gatos. He is a long-time resident of Silicon Valley who believes in the importance of supporting all services of our military, both Active Duty, Guard and Reserve, Retirees and Veterans.”
