As Immediate Past President, Bill Kelly's always says, It's an honor and a privilege to serve, well last week the honor and privilege was all ours to be able to see and fellowship with him as his wife Barbara brought him to see all of us after our club meeting. We were grateful to be a part of a good day for Bill. We have officially started our sign up for providing food for Bill and his family using mealtrain. We have committed to bring food every other day and we ask each of you to click the link here to schedule your day. If you prefer to sign up in person, we will have the link available at the meeting today.
Congratulations and Thanks were given to everyone who participated in the Art & Wine festival. All who attended raved that it was a great event. Special thanks to Mike Sellers and Nick Streit for heading it up.
Our Guest speaker last week was Maile Collmer. She helped us think about why Rotary, Who are we looking for to join our club, and to just invite, invite, invite. Her speech was right on time for our membership booth at the parade this weekend. Remember our goal is for each of us to invite 3 potential members this year.
- Our float is almost done, now for the finishing touch... WE NEED YOU!!! We are still in need of banner carriers and booth workers for this Saturday October 1st. We are less than 48 hours from parade time.
- We are hosting a Men's Clothes Drive for "Fit to be Hired". Please consider gathering no longer needed men's business wear and donating them to benefit newly resettled refugee gentlemen. We are collecting clothes now through noon on Oct. 6th. You can bring them during our meeting time today and next Thursday. We have also invited other clubs to donate. See the attached flier to invite you family and friends to donate as well.
- Sign ups for the District 5170 Avenues of Service will continue this week during our Rotary meeting. Please save the date and plan to attend at Mission College on Saturday Oct. 15th. The Club will sponsor the registration fee for the first 10 people to sign up.
THIS WEEK AT ROTARY:
The service partnership between Rotary International and The Peace Corps was the focus of the second annual Rotary-Peace Corps Week that took place September 19-23, 2022. Partnering for Peace (PFP), a group of Rotary members and Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, hosted a week-long virtual celebration. The Rotary community was invited to join and learn about how the partnership can support peacebuilding and service projects.
Our speaker this week, Steve Werner is an international development consultant. He served in Peace Corps – Korea as a two-year volunteer from 1976 – 1978 and Peace Corps Response – Georgia from 2016 – 2017. He has served in Rotary, through the Rotary Club of Denver Southeast, since 1989 and still serves at the club, District, and International levels as a Water and Sanitation specialist. Steve, along with other Denver area Rotarians, helped to develop the partnership between Peace Corps and Rotary, and he is the charter president of Partnering for Peace: Friends of Peace Corps and Rotary.
