We were pleased to meet Rajeev Batra, our Santa Clara Interim City Manager and learn firsthand about the state of our city. Thank you PPs Mike S. and Andy for bringing this speaker to us.
 
Last year we heard IPP Bill often say that we are a membership organization so this recap is dedicated to the importance of fun, fellowship, and support of our membership.
Thanks to Mike, Andy and Sandy for a fun evening with current, past and future Rotarian with magician Jay Alexander for dinner and a show in San Francisco.
 
To kickoff our meeting, PP Lou Ann shared a wonderful inspiration in honor of IPP Bill and her daughter as it related to medical miracles and a highlight for me was that we ended our meeting cheering and waving hello to Bill who joined us via zoom.
 
Congratulations to our club for being one of 20 out of over 60 clubs to achieve the district 5170 EREY Award for the first time in recent history. This honor recognizes clubs where 100% of their members donate to the Rotary Foundation thanks to IPP Bill and Sandy’s leadership, we accomplished this for the 2021-2022 Rotary year. We are also honored to have our immediate past International Director present to the district on the work being done in Ukraine.

   Sam Haynes       Professor, Department of History     Center for Greater Southwestern Studies  
 
Sam W. Haynes is a professor of History and director of the Center of Greater Southwestern Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington. He is the author of four books and several co-authored works, including the recent Unsettled Land: From Revolution to Republic, the Struggle for Texas (Basic Books, 2022). Haynes has served as a historical consultant for several PBS and the History Channel documentaries. The recipient of the Dobie Paisano Writers’ Prize and several research fellowships, he is an elected member of the Texas Institute of Letters and the Texas State Historical Association. Haynes holds a B.A. from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston.
