Representatives from Rotary clubs worldwide will gather in Chicago 10-15 April to consider changes to the policies that guide Rotary International and its member clubs.
Many of this year’s proposed changes are designed to increase membership by giving clubs greater flexibility in the timing and the nature of their meetings. Other proposals would amend membership requirements.
The Rotary Foundation and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education are offering up to 10 scholarships for graduate study at UNESCO-IHE's Delft campus in the Netherlands. The aim is to increase the number of trained professionals who can devise, plan, and implement water and sanitation solutions in developing areas. Interact clubs are making a positive difference in schools and communities around the world. Leaders of sponsor Rotary clubs and districts should make sure their Interact clubs get the recognition they deserve by verifying that they qualify for a Presidential Citation.
First, ensure that the Interact club status is active in Rotary's database by checking the Listing of Club-Sponsored Organizations report in Rotary Club Central. If a sponsored club is not listed, submit the Interact Club Certification Form by 1 March.

A new email purporting to be from Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Ray Klinginsmith is targeting Rotary members. The email falsely claims that members can become End Polio Now ambassadors if they email club information to a Gmail address within 48 hours.
The fraudulent email has the subject line “BECOME AN END POLIO AMBASSADOR” and is sent from a fake email address.
This is a scam. Rotary staff is working to resolve the issue. Avoid being the victim of scams by deleting any email that appears suspicious.

Our meeting on Tuesday was very ably hosted by YESS at their Strathcona Armory location. We were treated to a delicious meal and a tour of their facilities in this wonderful, light filled, old building.
Karen Good, from YESS, spoke to us about their current programs and also gave us a look into the future. They have been in operation since 1981 and currently provide day programs for homeless youth aged fifteen to twenty one years. They had a budget of 1.4 million dollars last year, most of which came from various charities and also from cost recovery pricing for the services they provide.
They operate two residences, one on Whyte Avenue and the other in the West end, in addition to the Armory day programs. They provide social activities, medical services, job search help, counseling and other types of help to homeless youth on the south side of Edmonton. It is estimated that there are about five hundred homeless youth in Edmonton at any one time.
Our donation of ten thousand dollars last year was used to purchase furniture for the lobby area of the building. Our donation of ten thousand dollars this year will go towards the purchase of a van to provide transportation for their clients to and from various appointments.
Starting in May of this year, YESS will also become the south side 'Youth Hub' providing space for services provided by the Government of Alberta, including expanded health care services, Mental Health supports and the Alberta Works job search program. Unfortunately these expanded services do not come with any additional funding, so any additional monetary assistance is welcome.
Rotary International President Ravi Ravindran is coming to District 5370 from April 21, 2016 to April 24, 2016. He will be staying in the Edmonton area and there are a number of events you can participate in. There are two big ways you can really help us in our efforts. 1. Walk to End Polio:
Come and Walk with President Ravi and Vanathy to help End Polio Now! This is a tradition of the Rotary Club of Edmonton and they are asking all District Rotarians to join them in raising awareness and funds. Pledge sheets are available on the registration site. Please register and come wearing red to make sure we stand out from the crowd. Can you imagine the awareness we would create if 500 of us were to walk along the streets of Edmonton on Saturday at noon? The press has been invited, President Ravi and Vanathy will be there, Rotary International Director Julia Phelps will be there, Rotary International Director-Elect Dean Rohrs will be there, District Governor Tim and Sally will be there, all we need is you! Please join us and help make this an event to remember.
Timmy’s Double Double Challenge still works for any pledges made for this event. That means that for every cup of coffee you donate Bill and Melinda Gates will donate 2 and the Canadian Government will donate 2. That’s 5 cups of coffee for donating a single cup! Can’t beat that.
On Tuesday we heard a report from members of the J Percy Page High School Interact club that is sponsored by our Rotary club.
Sophie, Selma and Fatima gave us a report on their fundraising activities for the past year. Their club has about forty members and meets Thursdays at noon to plan the various activities. At Halloween they hosted a Horror Movie, which raised four hundred dollars and was donated, along with matching funds, to Polio Plus.
At Christmas they sold Candy-grams which raised one hundred fifty dollars that was donated to the Food Bank. At Valentines they sold roses, which were donated by Heather de Kok, which raised two hundred dollars for charity.
They have also made four trips this winter to Ronald McDonald House to prepare meals and also have a trip planned to the Hope Mission to prepare and serve a meal.
They are a very enthusiastic group of young people, who are building charitable habits, that will hopefully stay with them for life.

Caren and Skip Kerr hosted a great many members and guests in their home at Oktober Fest last year. View photo album from last year's fest.
This year they are graciously opening their door and their hearts again in hosting a Hawaiian Feast with all the trimmings provided.
The date is Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 4:00 pm (1600) till 9:00 pm (2100).
Like last year, the Kerr's are putting on the whole show by providing food, entertainment and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), Cocktails are $5 extra.
There will be prizes for best theme dressed couple or person.
All revenue from ticket sales will be destined to a project to be determined by the club.

Petra Remy, from the Edmonton Rotary Club, attended our Tuesday meeting to personally invite us to attend their 100th Anniversary Gala Dinner to be held on 23 April at the Westin Hotel downtown.
RI President KR Ravindran will be delivering the keynote speech. It promises to be an entertaining time for all. They are hoping to see as many past and present members and friends in attendance as possible.
