Connor Pilz, Manager, Major Giving with CNIB, was smartly introduced at our Feb 2nd meeting by his dad and club member, Hans.
Connor gave an excellent presentation on the subject of a 3-D printer CNIB has been longing for, and with some assistance of this club and one of our members in particular, Fritz Koenig, they now have the major equipment on order.
His talk went into a detailed description of the functionality of a 3-D printer and it is absolutely amazing. Talk about technology on the edge! Read more about 3 D printing.
In the fall of 2015, a Southgate Centre exhibition of original 3-D paintings of dutch master Vincent van Gogh was on display. What was unique about the exhibition was that the public was encouraged to touch and feel the painting, something you could never do on the original canvas. Connor explained that the 3-D reproduction was so precise it actually included the natural cracks in the old paint.
Clients of CNIB were encouraged to 'feel' the 'paintings' and in a relatively short order they were able to comment on the scene and make comparisons with personal encounters of similar scenes.
This is truly an eye opener for the sight challenged members of our society.

Brad has been involved in the implementation of Edmonton's recent LRT expansion projects, including the South LRT (Capital Line), North LRT (Metro Line), and Southeast LRT (Valley Line).
Construction is scheduled to start here in 2016 and we were given an inauguration date of December 15th 2020. Put a mark in your calendar!

INQUIRY FOR INTEREST FOR A TRIP TO GREECE IN SEPTEMBER 2016
If you are interested in participating in a 7 to 8 days bus tour of Greece please send an e-mail to Dimitri Papanicolas at dpapanicolas@outlook.com in order to receive more information. The number of participants should not exceed 20, on first come first saved basis. We will also connect with a few Rotary Clubs during the trip.
The tour will take place in the mainland visiting archeological sites, religious sites, overall site seeing (see map) and of course some beach time and shopping. No island tours, but cruise tours can be organized separately.
We need chaperones to facilitate interact Club members from Victoria School and Lillian Osborne School to go to Belize City for a playground build project.
We need 2 chaperones for this trip, and if we cannot find 2 chaperones the Interactors will not be able to participate in this project.
The group will leave on February 19th and return on February 27th. There are 6 to 8 students, all female, that are planning to go.
This is an opportunity to participate in an international service project as well as mentor these young people as ambassadors for Rotary and for Canada.. They are in the final stages of planning for this trip.
For anyone who has never been, Belize is a beautiful country. English is the main language so it's easy to get around.
Please consider this project, if you are able to be a chaperone please let me know as soon as possible.
I can provide more detailed information for anyone who would be interested. Lets make this happen for the Interactors

Please forward stories, information and news you would like to share. I like to publish Friday morning, so call it Thursday evening as the deadline for submissions.
You can submit material in just about any format, but try and avoid PDF documents as it is very difficult to re-format. Pictures: any format. (Publ.)

Having had fun for 4 or 5 years as Editor of the Strathconian Newsletter, I feel it's time for someone else to enjoy the job.
