The D9790 Ride to Conference will be starting from Bendigo on Saturday. The team will be cycling 670 km over 6 days and arrive back in Bendigo on Thursday. The Corowa Rotary catering trailer is all packed and ready for the week ahead.
Preparing to celebrate Rotary's 111th Birthday. Let us all remember the amazing work that has been done by Rotarians around the world over the last 111 years. It is now time to plan for the future and in particular finish our job of eliminating polio. On the 23rd let us celebrate and plan for a polio free world, peace and goodwill to all mankind.

An option to gift giving at Christmas, our family has supported a charity or group each year. This year we promoted and put efforts towards the Amarok Society, a Canadian charity offering education to women (and in turn, their children) in Bangladesh slum areas. Some Rotary Club members graciously helped bring the total personal donations to $4,129. The letter below tells a story of how these funds can help them beyond the first education steps to knowing more and wanting more and achieving more.

We are so grateful to you and so appreciative of your recent very generous donation to Amarok Society. Our appreciation is really more than words can convey! Therefore I will include some pictures. Over the next few weeks I will also introduce you to some mothers who you are directly impacting with your support. As you may know we do not charge women a fee to attend our School however we do have them make a commitment to teach children in return. This has been fabulously successful and creates win/win situations many times over for all involved.
Recently one of our donors who supports a woman named Hamida noticed in her letter that she had learned tailoring from a course provided by Amarok Society to women in her school. He also noted that she was doing a lot of hand sewing and realized she didn’t have an option - no sewing machine. So he contacted us and asked for our help in getting Hamida a sewing machine from him. We were able to find a store in Dhaka that sold used sewing machines and he provided the funds and now Hamida has her sewing machine.
Last year women started to ask about getting a library - now I doubt if any had ever been to a library but as they became educated they knew that would be great. So we have started to open libraries as the funds are available. While they may not look like a library in our minds they are indeed doing the job! The books are just one part - they are kept in a new, dedicated locked cabinet and women can read them at school, borrow them and in addition there are story hours for women and for children and anyone in the community are invited! The school thus has extended hours and is really being a greater part of developing the neighbourhood.
I’d also like to announce that thanks to a grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, we have re-designed our YONA website! Please check it out, and let me know if you have any feedback or comments.

my name is Lukas and some of you may have met me in 2008/2009 when I was a Rotary Exchange Student in Fort St. John.
Since then I have studied Pharmacy back in Germany and as part of my mandatory practical year at the end of my studies I will be working at the Drug Development and Innovation Centre at the University of Alberta for six months, starting May 1st.
Because of this I am right now looking for a room or apartment from April 29th until the beginning of November. I would be very grateful for any help, so if anyone at your Club or someone you know has a room for rent that is either not too far from U of A or has a good connection there via public transport I would be very interested - my budget for rent is about 600 $ per month.

Jonathan Robb, Director of Strategic Integration & Stakeholder Relations with NorQuest College, our speaker on February 9th, pictured, spoke to us about NorQuest College and its role to the implementation of International Strategy and Aboriginal Leaner Strategy in particular.
Heather de Kok, Master Florist and Past President of the club, very generously, donated 100 beautiful long stem red roses to the Interactors at J Percy Page High School prior to Valentines day Feb 14th.
This has been an annual occurrence enabling the Interact Club to raise funds for specific projects.
Here is a thank you note from the teacher liaison, Karen Huculak:
"We really appreciate the donation of 100 roses!
After 3 lunch hours, we sold them all and raised $200.00 to go towards a worthy cause....possibly to support the Syrian refugees through Islamic Family and Social Services Association (IFSSA)."
