8:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Berryesa Flea Market parking lot

Join fellow Rotarians in providing a week's worth of food to Silicon Valley residents at the Hunger at Home drive-through food distribution event. We are looking for 14 volunteers to help out on the first Monday of each month. Each event typically distributes food to 325+ families.

When: November 2, 2026 from 8 am to 10-30:00 am;

Where: San Jose Flea Market located at 1411 Mabury Rd, San Jose. (enter via the Mabury Rd entrance, not the Berryessa Rd entrance)

What: Combine food items into bags/boxes for distribution, loading food into the vehicles.

How to Register: Email Diane King (dianeking1@gmail.com); Diane will send the list of volunteers to Harvest at Home and will organize carpools.

About this Project (our “Why”): Recent surveys show that 37% of families in Santa Clara Country are struggling from food insecurity while 40% of food goes to waste. Hunger at Home rescues food destined for our landfills by partnering with large organizations (Levi’s, SJ Convention Center, Shoreline, hotels, grocery stores, Sysco, etc) and repurposing the food collected to families in the community. So, not only are we feeding the hungry but we are reducing methane and CO2 emissions by diverting food from our landfills.

Second Harvest Food Distribution in Cupertino
Second Harvest Food Distribution in Cupertino Nov 05, 2026
7:45 AM - 9:30 AM

Rotary Project with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley

Cupertino Rotary is partnering with Second Harvest for their Cupertino farmers market-style free grocery distribution. This hands-on Community Service opportunity allows you to make a direct, local impact by helping distribute fresh, nutritious groceries to neighbors facing food insecurity.

📍 What: Second Harvest Farmers Market-Style Grocery Distribution
👥 Who: 8-10 volunteers needed per shift
📌 Where: Cupertino Union Church, 20900 Stevens Creek Blvd
🕖 When: 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month,  7:45 – 9:30 AM (on 3rd Thursday, if you can arrive at  7:30 AM, we need a few people to help bag frozen chicken)

Volunteers help set up and assist clients as they select their groceries in a Farmers market-style layout (and tear down afterward).  Friends/family (age 16+) are welcome!

Why This Matters:
Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is one of the largest food banks in the country, serving hundreds of thousands each month. Cupertino Rotary already indirectly partners with Second Harvest through our projects with Hunger at Home, West Valley Community Services, and De Anza College. This is our chance to partner directly—and right here in Cupertino.

The Story and State of American Infrastructure
Phil Washington The Story and State of American Infrastructure Dec 09, 2026

Phillip A. Washington, recently retired from the Denver International Airport, was initially nominated by Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock in July 2021 and by current Mayor Mike Johnston in July 2023.  In 2024, DEN ranked as the third-busiest airport in the U.S. and the sixth-busiest airport in the world. DEN is Colorado’s largest economic engine with an annual economic impact of $47.2 billion.

Prior to Washington’s arrival at DEN, he was the CEO of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) from 2015 to 2021. At Metro, Washington managed a balanced budget of $8.5 billion and provided oversight of an agency with 11,000 employees that transported 1.2 million boarding passengers daily on a fleet of 2,200 clean-air buses and six rail lines.  Washington led the 2016 successful effort to pass Measure M, a new half- cent sales tax in Los Angeles County (the most populous county in the United States), which garnered 71.15% voter approval. Measure M is allowing Metro to build 40 major highway and transit projects over the next 40 years, create 778,000 jobs and provide $133.3 billion in economic impact for the region. LA County residents are currently benefiting from the Measure with recent rail, highway, and bus facility openings.

Washington also served as the CEO of Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) between 2009 and 2015 and worked as the assistant general manager of RTD for nearly 10 years before being named CEO. In Denver, he led and implemented the FasTracks (another successful sales tax initiative) program, one of the largest voter-approved transportation expansion programs in the country.

Originally from the South Side of Chicago, Washington is a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Army, where he ultimately held the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest non-commissioned officer rank an enlisted soldier can achieve. He retired from active duty, is a disabled veteran and was awarded the prestigious Defense Superior Service Medal for exceptional service to his country. He holds a B.A. in Business from Columbia College and an M.A. in Management from Webster University.

Second Harvest Food Distribution
Second Harvest Food Distribution Dec 17, 2026

Sign-ups are needed at least EIGHT days in advance. Here are the sign-up links for all the sessions July-Dec 2026:

8:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Berryesa Flea Market parking lot

Join fellow Rotarians in providing a week's worth of food to Silicon Valley residents at the Hunger at Home drive-through food distribution event. We are looking for 14 volunteers to help out on the first Monday of each month. Each event typically distributes food to 325+ families.

When: January 4, 2027 from 8 am to 10-30:00 am;
