Welcome to Beaumont Rotary Club's 2010-2011 New Year. Our club will be 100 years old on July 1, 2013.
Living in the present time of Internet speed and items on demand, it is hard to imagine what it was like in the beginning of our Rotary club. There were no computers, cell phones, copy machines, scanners, faxes, concrete sidewalks, or universal air conditioning.
But business men came together in the interest of service to others, ethics, and business networking with the same purpose as today. Can you imagine the Beaumont charter group, under the leadership of Ed J. Emerson, making a commitment to an idea that became what it is today with 33,000 clubs and over 1.2 million members?
The Beaumont Rotary Club has seen changes and is still changing and emerging. New issues, new service projects and new ways of interacting with members are constantly in front of us. The faces in our club have changed and added diversity. The membership of our club has changed as business in the community has changed. The core commitment of Rotary has not changed: Service Above Self and Ethics in Business. Our challenge for the future is to stay the course of both service and ethics and adapt to new ideas and programs that fit our mission.
