What Can We Learn from the El Paso ISD Experience about a Board of Managers?
A resident of El Paso for over three decades, Dee Margo has dedicated his life to serving others. He is deeply committed to fulfilling his civic duty, and has taken leadership roles in numerous groups working to better our community and improve our quality of life. Those areas include jobs and infrastructure, education, health care and water quality.
For more than 30 years, Mr. Margo worked at the John D. Williams Company, where he worked his way up through the ranks from vice president in 1977 to chairman and CEO. Mr. Margo was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2010, and served on the Appropriations Committee, and the Land and Resource Management Committee. After JDW sold on September 1, 2012 to HUB International (one of the largest insurance brokerage firms in the world), Mr. Margo has established Margo Partners Inc.
He has been a strong leader in growing and diversifying El Paso's economy as an active member of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce, the El Paso Regional Economic Development Corporation, and the Paso Del Norte Group. Mr. Margo also helped found the Border Fund, a non-profit foundation providing more than $26 million in charitable grants to local volunteer groups; and Operation Noel, which provides more than 18,000 coats for needy El Paso children, from toddlers to teenagers, each Christmas.
A current member of the World Presidents Organization, and past member of the Young Presidents Organization, Mr. Margo has been honored as an exemplary role model in business ethics. He attended Vanderbilt University on a football scholarship where he received a bachelor's degree in history and economics, and where he met his wife Adair, also a Vanderbilt graduate.
Mr. Margo will be introduced by Chuck Kalkbrenner.
