842nd Transportation Battalion, Port of Beaumont

The 842nd Transportation Battalion is part of the Army’s Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command.  This command has been at the forefront of our nation since September 11, 2001, serving to deploy and redeploy military units overseas for combat operations.  In the past two years, the command has been equally busy receiving equipment returning from war that will be refurbished and reset to meet any future contingency operations for our nation.  The unit contracts with commercial rail and truck activities to move military cargo back to home stations and Army depots.  The unit is comprised of Service Members and Civilians working with the Port of Beaumont and commercial stevedores to get the job done.

The Port of Beaumont is recognized as the No. 1 military cargo port in the world.
