A reminder that although its an Election year, Rotary, as the permit holder for the parade, is a non-partisan group, as such NO ELECTION CAMPAIGN. campaign handouts, or Political Cause entries will be permitted to Participate. The Parade Marshall shall make the sole determination of the eligibility of entries, and remove those deemed not to comply with the parade rules, or the Rotary Four Way Test

At our Tuesday meeting the President Dave, and the Rotary Club of Dawson Creek were pleased to welcome our newest member, Carlyn, shown with her nominator Wanda into the Club. Welcome Carlyn! President Dave also presented our Rotarian of the year, Michelle, with the official plaque, where her name is now engraved beside many other notable residents of Dawson Creek.

At her last Rotary Meeting with us, our exchange student, the Stupendous, Spectacular, Sensational, and Splendid Serena gave us a meaningful recap of her year in Canada, and what the future holds for her. It has been our pleasure to host such a remarkable young woman, and wish her all the best as well as safe travels home. You will be missed. A BBQ for Rotarians to bid her farewell will be at Anna's house on Thursday, contact Anna if you haven't already if you plan to attend. Nous ne parlons pas très bien français, alors au revoir pour le moment, mais on se reverra un jour.

Join us in congratulating Michelle, voted the Rotarian of the year for her stepping into major rolls in the club, including the auction, fishing derby, community dinners, and much more.  Michelle is a dedicated volunteer, in addition to Rotary, she takes on roles in the Hospice Society, and Better at Home!  We couldn't be more proud of one of our members!

Another Year has flown by! As we enter our 75th year in Dawson Creek, we celebrate the Presidency of Heather, and welcome Dave as our next leader for the year. Rotarians gathered for an evening of fellowship, history, and games, and are proud to say that Rotarians recorded over 5400 hrs this year in Volunteerism in the community! Councillor Kyle MacDonald and owner of the local Tim Hortons franchises brought his Smile Cookie eating contest to our weekly meeting. We're proud to say Alex "The Gobbler" Reschny won the contest, after Michelle and Jim were disqualified for starting before the word "Go" was spoken. Smile Cookies are available now, and proceeds are staying local so make sure to support local, and buy yourself one, or work a whole box. Help Dawson Creek beat Kitimat in the sales challenge.

Rotary hosts another great family event next month, our annual Fishing Derby at Swan Lake March 8th! There will be free food and drinks for all participants and spectators. The Rotary Club of Dawson Creek is sad to announce the passing of our long time member, Mr. Dan Bell. Dan was a fixture at our meetings and events, and contributed greatly to the success of Rotary projects and events in Dawson Creek. Dan was a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Award, multiple times, and was currently serving as our Sargent at Arms at Rotary Meetings. Rotary Events are planned well in advance, and while we'll be asking for food donations come November, we're asking for donations of fabric, reusable shopping bags now. If you have surplus bags we can use to distribute the food collected, we'd much appreciate you dropping them off at our Tuesday Noon meeting, or our Friday 7am meeting at the George Dawson Inn. If you have a large quantity, reach out to any Rotarian and we will find someone to pick up.

Rotary was pleased to be grilling the eats for all the Triathlon competitors this last weekend! What a great annual event! Congrats to all that participated!

Since 1986, The Noon Rotary Club of Dawson Creek has provided 39 graduating students of Dawson Creek a monetary scholarship towards their continuing post secondary education. Over $80,000 has been awarded to date since the program's inception which was seeded by a generous bequest to Rotary. We are pleased to announce Lateesha as this year's recipient of $5000, and can't wait to see her achieve her academic dreams. Picture here is President Anna, and recipient Lateesha.

Rotarians that weren't at the RI conference in Calgary, attended a great night of food and fellowship celebrating President Anna's term as our leader.  One of her initiatives was recording our clubs volunteer hours in the community, which apparently was 4200!

The return of the great Rotary Car Rally saw teams from both the Rotary Club (Noon) and Sunrise Club traveling the South Peace from Dawson to the windmill farm, north past Rolla, into Alberta and then south to Swan Lake. John with Citizens on Patrol presented to the Rotary Club this last Tuesday, and provided Rotary with the groups activities in the area, the need to refurbish the signs around the community, what volunteers can expect to do, and how they work as a team with the RCMP. As we resume our traditional activities post-pandemic, a reminder to Rotarians to sign up for our annual community events by returning the form provided at the May 3 meeting, or emailing the club. Please pick AT LEAST FOUR events you can participate in to reduce the workload on those members that volunteer for all of them. And remember we have internal events, such as the Christmas Fellowship Social, President's Night, and Baseball game vs FSJ to participate in as well!

The Noon Club is pleased to present Paul DeCosta of the Sportsman Club a cheque to contribute to the expansion of recreation opportunities in our community.

Rotary has contributed to the ski hill, nordic trails, climbing wall, splash park and others in recent years.

Continuing our 70th Anniversary, the Dawson Creek Rotary Club is pleased to provided some funding to the Bear Mountain Ski Hill, one of our communities most valuable assets.

In Person Meetings have Moved for the summer!  Starting July 20th, and every 2nd Tuesday after for the Summer, we're at Sudeten Hall, 1901-Alaska Ave.  Coffee and water Available and your welcome to bring your own lunch.  PLEASE NOTE:  Webex broadcasts will be suspended unless specifically requested by a member that wants to attend, but can't.

You may choose to join us online via webex Tuesday, or in person at KPAC. Mask and social distancing measures in effect.

No food or beverage service, but feel free to bring your own.

We are pleased that the Rotary Clubs of Dawson Creek naming of the park that connects 17th street to Pioneer Village was accepted by City Council, and is henceforth to be known as "Ken Haverland Park".

Rotary Clubs of Dawson Creek's Paving of the Walking Path is Underway! After many years of use, the paths are receiving a new asphalt surface, ensuring many more years of enjoyment. Special shout out to Rotarians Don Bourassa (noon club) and Joe Judge (sunrise club) for their spearheading, Trails Canada for their matching funds, and Peter Bros Paving undertaking the work.

Good news!  Trails Canada has matched Rotary's financial contribution, and paving is likely to commence in the next two weeks.

Thanks to Rotary's financial Contribution, the Sudeten Hall Floor at Rotary Village has been Restored.
