Last Thursday’s breakfast discussion gave us plenty to research and decide about our preferred refugee mentoring effort for 2023. We do not wish to rush this, to ensure we make best use of our capacity and develop our skills whilst keeping the risk manageable. As I’ve said before, this work is among the best community activity our Club has ever done. If you’d like to help with it, please speak with Katey, Alison or Kirsti.
Our Christmas tree sales are ticking over quite well with 82 trees welcomed into new homes, despite two hot Saturdays in a row. This weekend is cooler and sales may benefit. Perhaps due to volunteers being stretched between trees and BBQs, we only fielded 2 shifts at Monday’s Mile End BBQ but still kept sufficient ‘ka-ching’ at the till. Thanks and well done to all our volunteers!
Club wine sales need a final push as we sail into the Christmas wind-down phase. On Tuesday we took delivery of the Watervale Riesling pallet from Mitchell’s Alcatraz vineyard near Clare. It’s excellent value with 44% discount at $120/dozen. The Chalk Hill shiraz is similarly compelling value at 43% discount for $150/doz. Order some here for Christmas, then Rob and I can get our floor space back!
To much acclaim, Adelaide Light managed to retrieve the ‘Auld Teapot’ at last Friday’s annual Sporting Challenge vs Adelaide City Rotaract and a good time was had by all. See the photos below.
This Thursday, there’s a Coffee Conversation at White Picket Café. Our last meeting for the year will be a festive one at the Terrace Hotel on Thursday 22 December. 🎄🤶🎅
After the amazing success of our Rotary Clubs Riesling offered earlier this year, we have secured a local red wine for you to consider, enabling you to stock up for Christmas.
McLaren Vale is renowned for its excellent shiraz and this Chalk Hill Shiraz represents wonderful value, normally $22 per bottle, our club's fundraising offer is just $150.00 for a dozen. ($12.50 a bottle)
This delicious, easily drinkable wine is clean and smooth without unpleasant tannin aftertaste, so it's rapidly becoming a favoured wine.

As you can see Buddy a 3yr old Cavoodle (75% Cavalier) and Benni the 4yr old Cocker Spaniel are two beautiful female dogs who sadly need to be re-homed, as their owner has gone into a nursing home. They are both desexed, microchipped and fully vaccinated with sweet natures and fully house trained, but have not been well socialised so can be barky when out on walks. Ideally a home together would be best, however consideration to separate homes will be given.
There is no money expected to adopt Buddy and Benni, just someone who is willing to give them a loving home and a good life.

A young man shopping in a supermarket noticed an old lady following him around. If he stopped, she stopped. Furthermore, she kept staring at him.
She finally overtook him at the checkout and she turned to him and said... "I hope I haven't made you feel ill at ease; it's just that you look so much like my late son."
He answered, "That's okay."
"I know it's silly, but if you'd call out, 'Good bye, Mum' as I leave the store, it would make me feel so happy", she said.
She then went through the checkout and as she was on her way out of the store, the man called out, "Goodbye Mum!"
The old lady waved and smiled back at him.
Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone's day, he went to pay for his groceries. "That comes to $121.85." said the check out girl.
"How come so much? I only bought 5 items."
The girl replied, "Yes, but your mother said you'd be paying for her things too."
