Upcoming meetings
The next 2 meetings (September 17, 24) will be held at the Royal Coach Hotel, 24 Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town. This week will be a Planning Meeting. Join us there at 7 for 7:15am for breakfast.
The meeting on 1 October will be at the Naval Military and Air Force Club and will celebrate Hat Day, a fundraising event for Rotary's Mental Health programs. This will be a joint meeting with Rotary Club of Adelaide South.
Last week's meeting
Last week's speaker was Gary Locke of the Hutt Street Precinct Association. Gary runs the Adelaide Travellers' Inn, a backpackers hostel in Hutt Street. He moved it from Carrington Street about 10 years ago. Initially, there was some concern from local traders, but they now appreciate the backpackers' presence - many of them work in the local bars and cafes and some do odd jobs locally in the community. There was discussion about how we might better liaise with the Association. Rob McLennan recalled that there was a joint project some years ago when he was President. Gary suggested that one way would be to apply for community/arts grants to fund joint projects. We could also become "Friends" of the Association for $50 a year.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.
A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car.
His father said he'd make a deal with his son: 'You bring your grades up from a C to a B average, study your Bible, and get your hair cut. Then we'll talk about the car.'
The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he'd settle for the offer, and they agreed on it.
After about six weeks his father said, 'Son, you've brought your grades up and I've observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I'm disappointed you haven't had your hair cut.
The boy said, 'You know, Dad, I've been thinking about that, and I've noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair ~ and there's even strong evidence that Jesus had long hair.
You're going to love the Dad's reply:............................
"Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere?"
