Hi, Rotarians and Friends.
We enjoyed an excellent combined meeting with Adelaide City Rotaract last Wednesday - Lauren Hillman entertained us with her insightful stories about Community TV and Channel 44. New members, Carol and Erfan were duly inducted into our Club that night (photos below), so please make them welcome at every opportunity.
Last Saturday morning’s bush walk in the back blocks of Blackwood bushland fully utilised the lovely spring weather before it withdraws for a few weeks (see photos). If you like a walk with like-minded folk there’s a leisurely Australian Rotary Health fundraiser walk this Sunday 9 October via Eastwood and Regency Park Rotary. Click here to register.
Thanks to the 13 volunteers who gave their time to operate last Monday’s Bunnings BBQ with special thanks to Rob, Di and others who engineer that possibility. Well done to all involved for the record revenue result. New members, Carol and Brian were also among our Bunnings BBQ volunteers… and Di is back too, attending to hotplate duties with as much diligence as ever. It’s great to have you back, Di.
Special thanks to Rob, who went into action at short notice to run the bar at Fred Smith’s concert for Afghans last Friday. Thanks also to timely volunteers, Liz and Lilli enabling the $570 they raised for our Afghan mentoring. Fred kindly included profit from his CD sales.
Bruce will soon return from visiting his son, Lachlan who recently ran 245 km from the Acropolis to Sparta - a huge feat in 35C humidity. After severe cramp at 70km then mostly night running, he fell heavily on the mountain before dawn at 172 km. Hobbling on with patched nose, face, hands and knees, he finally withdrew 10km from the finish when his body siezed-up. A fantastic effort and great experience for Bruce as his ‘second’. Only half the starters actually finished, so Lachlan did well.
Our next breakfast meeting is Thursday 13 October at the Terrace Hotel with Brian Harvey’s ‘Life and Times’. Yvette will be acting President that day, so please help her clarify your attendance beforehand. We’re charged for 15 minimum, so I encourage you to get along to this one. I’m sure you’ll enjoy Brian’s most interesting story.
On Thursday 27 October we’ll have a Club Consultation meeting over dinner in the Naval, Military and Air Force Club on the corner of Hutt and Angas Streets. This week for those who can make it, there’s a ‘Coffee Conversation’ 9:30am Thursday 6 October at White Picket café in Dulwich.
