Without this we can’t book the room properly and may face default costs. Some people have advised they’ll always attend and only advise if they can’t, which is fine as long as you do so.
At this Thursday’s meeting (24Mar’22) we’re updating members about recent Board and Club activity and I’ll offer a summary in next week’s newsletter. Despite COVID constraints, we’ve all been busy fundraising and also spending with our labour on various community services here and abroad.
I hope many of you can join us this Sunday 27th at our Harmony picnic with our Club’s Afghan mentees atMitcham Reserve, Norman Walk. Bring some food along to share and if you have something orange to wear, you’ll be flying the Harmony Week colours.
Looking further ahead, final numbers are needed for the Area 12 Combined Clubs dinner on Wednesday 20th April at the Adelaide Pavilion - you can book here: If you have a story about your ‘Best Rotary Moment’, let me know ASAP… you may be able to entertain us with it on the night.
Rob’s arranged a film night (‘The Duke’) on Friday April 29th at Prospect’s Palace Nova theatre. It’s a charming tale about an English worker who stole a Goya from the National Gallery - featuring marvellous performances from Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren. Funds raised will support Afghan refugees, so please circulate it widely among your social network when Rob sends out the flyer.
Adelaide Parks’ Quiz Championship intended for late May is now adrift looking for a date but meanwhile our own Quiz Night in conjunction with Adelaide City Rotaract is on track for Friday 3rd June. It is a big fundraiser for both clubs, so please let Rob and Di know if you’d like to help organise it.
Our Bunnings BBQs have been running hot lately and we’ve also helped Norwood and Adelaide Parks Rotary with theirs, so we’re a bit burned out (‘scuse the puns). In these extra BBQs, Di and Rob have made gold medal appearances. 👏 The photo below shows Rob, Di and me receiving the tongs from Adelaide Parks’ Secretary and cordon bleu sausage chef, George.

At Wednesday's District Governor's visit and dinner, DG Jeff Neale gave John Wotherspoon the attached certificate from the Rotary Foundation, regarding our support for End Polio.

When I overheard one of my cashiers tell a customer, "We haven't had it for a while, and I doubt we'll be getting it soon," I quickly assured the customer that we would have whatever it was she wanted by next week.
After she left, I read the cashier the riot act.
"Never tell the customer that we're out of anything. Tell them we'll have it next week," I instructed her. "Now, what did she want?"
