This week we have a breakfast meeting on Thursday 10 October at 7.15 am at the Stamford Plaza Hotel. If you are unable to attend the meeting or will have guests attending, please email me at kmball@jelkamain.com or text me on 0402853929 by Wednesday lunchtime so that I can advise the Stamford Plaza about numbers attending.
We were all enthralled by the amazing range of diamonds that John and Lyn Karran brought to our meeting last Wednesday evening along with the replica of the Centenary diamond that is on display for a month in their jewellery shop. Thank you, John for explaining to us the significance of the centenary diamond and for showing us the differences and special characteristics of the diamonds that you presented at the meeting.
Last Saturday morning John Wotherspoon led a group from our Club and the Adelaide Rotaract Club on a very invigorating hike up through the hills of the Waite Conservation Park and the Carrick Hill Reserve, followed by a picnic at Mitcham Reserve. It was a great walk amongst the spring wildflowers, and we were fortunate to see koalas in the trees above us near the track. Our next Club excursion with Adelaide Rotaract Club will be a progressive BBQ on 10 November with an optional bushwalk at the Onkaparinga Gorge or morning tea at John and Lyn Karrans’ house, followed by a BBQ at Angus Tuck’s and Helen Cox’s farm at Kangarilla and dessert at Katrina and Vincent Balls’ vineyard at neighbouring Blewitt Springs.
A reminder that we will be joining the Rotary Clubs of Adelaide Parks, Adelaide South and Adelaide West next Wednesday evening, 16 October at 6.15 pm, at the Naval and Military Club in Hutt Street to meet our District Governor, Jane Owens who will be guest speaker. The cost of dinner is $26 which is paid on the night. Please let me know if you are attending as final numbers are needed by 14 October.

On New Year's Eve, Daniel was in no shape to drive, so he sensibly left his van in the car park and walked home. As he was wobbling along, he was stopped by a police officer. 'What are you doing out here at four o'clock in the morning?' asked the officer.
'I'm on my way to a lecture,' answered Daniel.
'And who on earth, in their right mind, is going to give a lecture at this time on New Year's Eve?' enquired the police officer sarcastically.
