I was very happy to attend our Rotary meeting in person after some complications with my ankle surgery. Great to see everyone. Thanks to all for looking after the club and keeping projects moving along. I am very grateful for your support.
As this was a planning meeting, we spent most of the meeting discussing location and membership. We will most likely continue our meetings at the Royal Coach hotel until the end of the year to ensure that we manage our costs accordingly.
Good to hear that the weekly bbq continues to be successful. Please do sign up to the roster if you have not done so already and you are able to help
out.
Brian Ballard from the Prospect a Rotary club attended our meeting and had an invitation gift for all Rotarians from DG Doug Layng encouraging us to attend the conference in the Barossa next year. We have your bottle of wine waiting for you so please do collect this next time you come to one of our
meetings. And, please register for the conference.
I will be travelling back and forth to Melbourne for a few more weeks as I have some follow up doctor appointments so look forward to seeing you all very soon.
Stay happy and healthy, Miriam xx
Upcoming meetings
The next meetings (September 24) will be held at the Royal Coach Hotel, 24 Dequetteville Terrace, Kent Town. Join us there at 7 for 7:15am for breakfast.
For our joint meeting with the Rotary Club of Adelaide South on 1 October will be at the Naval Military and Air Force Club and will celebrate Hat Day - a fundraising event for Rotary's Mental Health programs.
Each year, more than 900,000 South Australian volunteers dedicate their time and skills to helping others, providing a vital range of services across our community. The State Government recognises the importance of supporting our volunteers by providing one-off grants through the Volunteer Support Fund to assist volunteer workers in community organisations.
Grants of up to $3,000 are now available for community organisations to help provide support for volunteer training and resources. Community-based, not-for-profit organisations incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 are eligible.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday 23 October 2015.
The online application form and the grant guidelines can be downloaded from the Office for Volunteers website at www.ofv.sa.gov.au/grants. For more information, phone the Office for Volunteers on 1300 014 712.

The joint D9500 and D9520 Hat Day committee are planning a collection day in the city on Hat Day and we need helpers to assist in raising money and awareness. If you can help please contact Jerry Casburn on mobile (0407 646 396) or email (jerry@thecasburns.com.au).

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement
To be recognised as the Service Club of Choice in the Eastern Precinct of Adelaide because we are a Friendly Breakfast Club that appeals to a broad range of busy people who want to make a difference to local and international communities.
If people from Poland are called Poles, then why aren't people from Holland called Holes?
If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?
Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a race car is not called a racist?
If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?
If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, then doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?
Is it true that you never really learn to swear until you learn to drive?
Why, Why, Why do we press harder on the remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak?
Why do banks charge a fee due to insufficient funds; when they already know you're broke?
Why is it that when someone tells you that there are one billion stars in the universe you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint you have to touch it to check?
