We’re introducing occasional dinner meetings to complement breakfast meetings and make our club more approachable for those who find breakfast difficult. So, this Thursday August 12th we’ll meet in the The Astor Hotel at 6 for a 6:30pm start. It’s on Pulteney/Gilles St corner - when you enter, head right and upstairs to the Astoria Room.
At this Thursday evening’s meeting we’ll discuss projects including a new one, ‘End Trachoma’ toiletry kits for Central Australia. We’d also like to know what kind of engagement you’d like with our sponsor Club - Adelaide City Rotaract, so please ponder that one. Astor meals are very affordable... most either side of $15. So come along, have your say, or just enjoy the camaraderie. Rob’s presiding, as I’m up north this week.
Fundraising? Our next Grange raffle is on the way. Based on last year, it generates considerable annual revenue. So once tickets are available, please think creatively about how to sell them. The prizes appeal most during winter and It sold well last year. This year’s second prize of Parawa Estate Ingalalla Grand Reserve challenges the Grange itself. Though not for retail sale here, it costs more than Grange overseas.
Community Service?
Though we didn’t raise a crowd for last Friday’s ‘Walk a Mile’ fundraiser from Victoria Park, some weekday bushwalkers I know opened their wallets and freed $500 for this good, though now rather commercial cause.
Our next ‘Chat 2 Belong’ coffee morning is Saturday 21st August at Café Outside the Square (Whitmore). So, if you know any recent migrants who may benefit, please let Kirsti know.
Social activity? Rob is brewing some events and those opting for ‘Guess Who’ dinners should be gathering on Saturday 4th September. If you haven’t yet told Rob you’re interested... time’s a wasting! Perhaps he can still squeeze you in?
Most of the initial starters for our Steam Ranger train ride from Mt Barker to Goolwa return will be there for the new date of Sunday 22nd and we’ll fill most of a carriage. ROTARY ADELAIDE AND THE PROSPECT DISTRICT CRICKET CLUB PRESENT THE 6TH “NOT THE TEST MATCH DINNER”, TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY 15 DECEMBER 2021 AT THE NATIONAL WINE CENTRE.
It is with pleasure and pride that we can report that the NTTMD is on again. This year will be particularly special as the English Test side will be here for the Ashes series.
The key details:
Mike Atherton (former England Captain) has agreed to be our special guest speaker, while former Prospect Cricket Club team mates Joe Root (current England captain) & Nathan Lyon (now Australian spinner) will start with a pre-dinner banter session (which will be pre-recorded because with the Test starting the following day, Joe and Nathan will be involved in team meetings at the time of our dinner). The wonderful National Wine Centre is the confirmed venue.
So all we need now is a crowd of at least 300, and we would like you and your friends to be part of those 300 and consider attending because it:
will be a very enjoyable evening - with great food and wine plus exceptional international entertainment - particularly for someone with an interest in cricket;
is an important fundraiser for Rotary Adelaide (and for the Prospect District Cricket Club) and there is real scope to continue increasing the funds raised. More dollars raised means the more we can support needy community projects.
We are therefore asking all Club members to get involved and consider:
agreeing to organise and host a table of 10 ($130 per head) of your friends from either inside and/or outside the Club; or

As this is a major fundraiser for Rotary Adelaide, we also need your help in gathering items for our silent auction. Ideally, we would like to offer "experiences" such as group wine tastings, weekend packages to the Barossa Valley, Kangaroo Island, the Adelaide Hills, or somewhere similar; and opportunities like driving on the Tailem Bend track or doing a Skye Walk at Adelaide Oval etc or indeed anything else that might appeal to our audience. In addition to the silent auction we are also planning a “Wine Wall” so we are also asking if you could assist by sourcing a bottle or more of medium to good quality wine for the wall. So if you or any of your contacts can help with any of these fundraising initiatives, please contact Rob, Barry or D'Arcy.
The Not The Test Match Dinner is now an iconic event. If you have not been before here is your opportunity to get on board and be involved in what is a truly wonderful night.
