Julie’s ‘Biggest Morning tea went very well last Thursday, demonstrating once again the many great stories our members can tell. Sincere thanks to all who brought wine and other goodies for Quiz Night prizes. On Monday, Rob, Paige and I grouped them into the necessary prize combinations and you’ve amply filled the bill - well done!
I clean forgot to photograph this prize allocating work so I hope the belatedly bare photo below may help you imagine the scene… Tables and floor festooned with wine and other goodies. Rob applying his retailer’s view to ensure recipients deem their prizes fair. Paige, meticulously industrious as usual, checking it’s all tickety boo; and me in the mix somewhere too. Also picture our pooch, Fergus sniffing around and generally ‘being with’, before taking himself off in the corner for a snooze.
On fundraising, the Quiz Night is on track thanks to Paige, Nick Egan, Rob and Stuart. Our pallet of delicious riesling is due to arrive next Wednesday and you’ll soon get an email about it, so do get your orders in. Di and our BBQ volunteers keep diligently helping with Norwood Rotary BBQs while also delivering our own Bunnings BBQ on the 13th.
Some of us did the Kaurna Reconciliation walk last Sunday and for our next breakfast meeting on Thursday 9 June, Katey Halliday and Bernie Barrett will help us explore the Welcome to Country and Acknowledgement of Country - a fitting topic after National Reconciliation week. Diversity, equity and inclusion are core Rotary values, reinforced by Rotary International Presidents each year. Indeed, those values were illustrated early by Rotary Clubs requiring members from diverse fields so they could understand and respect the worth of all occupations.
Consider our Saturday 18 June ‘Chat 2 Belong’ session for your diary. Kirsti has spaces at a Trees For Life bushfire recovery planting day in the Hills on Saturday 2 July from 9am-3:30pm - let her know ASAP if you’re interested. Also, if you’d like to help the children’s charity Treasure Boxes by volunteering on a weekday, let Kirsti know so she can organise a group for this.
Otherwise, please join us at our Club Rollover Dinner on Thursday evening 30 June and bring your partner to welcome the new Rotary year at the Terrace Hotel.
Finally, this Thursday’s Coffee Conversation is 9:30am June 2 at White Picket Café.
Kirsti is doing a drive for Fred's Van given the weather has turned and as whenever we go out there we are always asked for the following:
Good quality warm blankets (can be old in good condition, or new)
Sleeping bags (can be old in good condition, or new)
Socks (full length, not ankle) - Men's and Women's (new only)
Please bring in your donations to a breakfast meeting and pass on to John or Rob, or to a community service meeting. There is no set deadline but we will collect for about 1 month or so.
The District Governor’s Partner's project this year is Allkids whose primary objective is to ensure that all children in the Ream Commune of Cambodia, have access to education. Since 2012, AllKids have provided educational services to over 1500 children.
School infrastructure remains basic and there is limited money for maintenance, so AllKids works closely with principals, teachers, and school administration staff to improve learning outcomes for students.
To support Jenny Neale with her Partner's project the Rotary Club of Campbelltown is holding LUNCH AT THE CIVIC on Sunday 5th June; 12pm for 12.30 pm at the Campbelltown Civic Centre.
For the benefit of members, we will aim to give the Duty Roster a few weeks ahead - see below.
