Stories
President's Pen
Hi, Rotarians and Friends.

It’s a busy week this one… another Bunnings BBQ on Monday (less ka-ching this time), two zoomed committee meetings Tuesday (Community Service and Refugee Mentoring) and Fred’s Van on Wednesday.

If any members want to offer their skills for Board positions, do let me know.  Bruce would be like to work with a Deputy Treasurer right now… this could eventually morph into Club Treasurer in due course (or not, as desired).  There’s also room for a new Club President if you’re interested… best to enquire than die wondering.  Tell me where your interest lies as there may be other roles to suit your strengths.

Here are a few dates to keep in mind:
  • Our District Governor’s dinner Wednesday 16th March at the Naval and Military Club involves us, Adelaide Parks, Adelaide Central and Adelaide City Rotaract.
  • Area 12 Combined Clubs dinner is Wednesday 20th April at the Adelaide Pavilion
  • Adelaide Parks Quiz Championship on Saturday 21st May - let’s field a team

For the Area 12 dinner we need to seek your stories about your ‘Best Rotary Moment’, so please think about this and let me know.  At our 10th March breakfast we’d like to hear such stories, then choose one with which you could regale other diners at the 20th April dinner.

There’s no photos this week but I thought you might be interested in some graphics presented in our Refugee mentoring group’s training course.  As they say, a picture tells a thousand words and these below rather neatly capture the nub of the Power and Privilege experience.

To manage Covid risk, we’ll keep zooming our meetings till the end of February.  So, our 24th February breakfast will be zoomed and logon details will eventuate.  Coffee Conversations will restart 9:30am Thursday 3rd March at White Picket Café for those who can be there.  Our next ‘in-person’ breakfast meeting will be Thursday 10th March at The Terrace Hotel.

Best wishes,
John

Area 12 Dinner
Combined Area 12 Clubs’ Dinner - Wednesday 20 April
Area 12 of our District has 10 clubs: Adelaide, Adelaide Light, Adelaide Central, Adelaide Parks, Prospect, Regency Park and Walkerville Rotary as well as Adelaide City, Uni and Thebarton Senior College Rotaract.

Our Area 12 combined dinner is on Wednesday 20 April at the Adelaide Pavilion, South Terrace (6:30 for 7pm start, finish ~9:30). Please note the date change.

This relaxed, friendly and informal dinner includes partners and friends.  The $55 ticket includes a 2 course meal and $5 donation to the Rotary Foundation.  There's no official Guest Speaker - instead each Club will submit stories about ’My Best Rotary Moment'.  Five people will be asked to share their five minute story about their best Rotary moment.
We hope for good attendance from our club, so please put it in your diary.  More detail can be found via the booking link below:

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

To have fun and engage interest from new members and friends as we use our strengths for a better world here and abroad - a welcoming, flexible group having fun doing hands-on activities for positive impact.
