Hi, Rotarians and Friends. 
 
If you didn’t read last week’s newsletter, don’t stress… we didn’t send one. I was particularly busy and Di was merciful! 😉
 
Thanks to all our stoic Bunnings BBQ volunteers who turned out for an extra one to help Norwood Rotary Club last Monday.  Thanks in anticipation to the volunteer team also ensuring success for our next Club BBQ at Bunnings next Monday 14th. 
 
The refugee mentor group is steadily building rapport and English skills with our Afghan family.  Last Sunday, Rob, Katey, Kirsti, Paige, Margie and I took them to see some Australian natives at Cleland.   See photos below.  Either side of a picnic lunch they communed with kangaroos, koalas, emus, many other small animals and even snakes.  Hand feeding the kangaroos was the highlight… Baba (Grandpa) was a natural with animals and the kangaroos particularly took a shine to him.
 
Our combined clubs District Governor’s dinner is Wednesday 16th March at the Naval and Military Club (AdLight, Adelaide Parks, Adelaide Central and Adelaide City Rotaract).  At this stage our attendance is rather poor, so if you can come, I need to know final attendance numbers by this Thursday 10th March.
 
The Area 12 Combined Clubs dinner is on Wednesday 20th at the Adelaide Pavilion, so do put that one in your diary.  Also, please let me know the story about your ‘Best Rotary Moment’ if you’d like to offer one.
 
I hope we can field a quiz night table for the Rotary Club of Adelaide Parks’ Quiz Championship on Saturday 21st May.  It will be good practice for the Quiz Night we’re running with Adelaide City Rotaract Club on Friday 3rd June.  It is a big fundraiser for both clubs, so please let Rob and Di know if you’d like to help organise it.
 
Chat to Belong will operate again in April, so watch out for more about that later.  We have another Fred’s Van on Wednesday 9th.  Our Thursday’s breakfast meeting resumes this week (10th March) at the Terrace Hotel 7 for 7:15am.  Hopefully Covid is now tolerable as Coffee Conversations also continue with our next one March 17th.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about  the speaker prior to the meeting.
Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests.
Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriate persons.
Furniture: Flags; banner display;  Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computer set up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice.
Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting.
Rotaract: Meets alternate Mondays at 6pm (for a 630pm start) at the General Havelock Hotel in Hutt Street.
Bread Run: Sundays, meet outside Romeo's, North Adelaide at 4:55pm

Members rostered for Thursday morning duty are asked to be in attendance by 6.45am

To resolve conflicts between management and staff, I brought both sides together and asked employees to jot down key words on a flip chart.
 
One participant complained about management’s tendency to interfere and wrote the word nitpicking.
 
A manager leapt to his feet to ask, “Shouldn’t there be a hyphen between nit and picking?”
