Our excellent Chat 2 Belong sessions resumed again last Saturday after the early 2022 COVID containment measures. It’s a truly wonderful programme, so if you’ve not experienced it, do reward yourself and come along next month (21st May). Alex and Maria did a great job once again with some new Aussies and Rotarians chatting for enhanced ‘belonging’. Most had been in Sydney for a couple of years, arriving in Adelaide in recent weeks to quickly appreciate the ‘well-kept secret’ we know Adelaide to be.
Last week, our main Afghan family contact, Erfan discovered he’d contracted Covid but turned 30 with celebration constrained amid this fasting month of Ramadan. the photos below show mixed feelings, extremely happy but unwell and fasting. Thank you to all the refugee mentors volunteering each week to help him and his family assimilate smoothly. Another extremely positive community service.
We’re slowly gathering a quorum for our film night, ‘The Duke’ on Friday April 29th at Prospect’s Palace Nova theatre. Featuring Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren, it’s a charming tale about an English worker who stole a Goya from the National Gallery. Funds raised will support Afghan refugees, so please circulate it widely among your network - you can buy tickets here.
Our intrepid Bunnings BBQ teams stumped up again last Monday for yet another day of BBQ sales to keep the fundraising till ticking over. Grateful thanks to all for this effort… we know we’ve been calling upon more than usual of late but it helps us make up for the COVID delayed start to ’21/2.
Paige, Rob and I are starting to work with Nic and Santhny of Adelaide City Rotaract to plan for our combined Quiz night on 3rd June at Pulteney Grammar’s Wyatt Hall. It should be a goodie… so please put that date in your diary and begin thinking about a table of friends you might invite.

Rotary International estimates its Global Polio Eradication Initiative has saved over 20 million children around the world from paralysis. We must continue vaccinating children against polio - if the poliovirus circulates anywhere, it is a threat everywhere.

Rotary district funding to PolioPlus helps raise the $50 million each year to eradicate polio.

Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests.
