Our virtual breakfast meeting last Thursday welcomed two new members into our Club with Paige Honor and Stuart Marshall. When we can gather in person again, I’m sure all members will give you a warm welcome, face-to-face.
Paige is fluent with Rotary having been a busy Rotaractor and Past President of Adelaide City Rotaract. After a while with the Rotary Club of Social Impact (a Sydney e-club), Paige craved face-to-face involvement and luckily for us, found our club a good fit. She’s been valuably energetic as a community service volunteer for us in Fred’s Van and refugee mentoring. Last Wednesday despite major Festival of Cycling obstruction, Paige successfully led our Vanners and meals are up from 50 to 70 now.
Stuart (or ‘Stu the Dentist’) is keen to engage with our community service work to complement his dental career as Chief Dental Officer with SA Dental. You’ve come to the right place Stuart - we’re continually busy in that area, thanks to Kirsti and her team. Please make Stuart welcome, we look forward to getting to know you as we work together in the time ahead. It’s great to see new club members, so thanks to Rob, Kirsti and all those helping to ‘oil our wheels’ in that direction.
Thanks also for all who are putting their shoulder to the wheel with ‘Nurture Kit’ contributions. Help with Tongan relief via Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) is also much appreciated.
RAWCS works in harmony with the Rotary Foundation, ranked as exceptional by ‘Charity Navigator’, receiving their highest world rating for the past 14 years. RAWCS projects showcase how Rotary’s worldwide relationships can truly pay off where rapid, targeted care is required. Apart from your personal Tongan donations, our club has also given $1,000 to this RAWCS fund.
Not only do we pull our weight as a club in all the usual avenues of service but our members are also personally doing their bit for SA’s economy. Kirsti and Katey dug deep for tourism last week for a restorative break on Kangaroo Island, while boosting that economy. A well-earned rest with well-posed photos to prove it.
The Omicron wave causes our next meeting Thursday February 10th to be Zoomed, so more details on this as we get closer.

Combined Area 12 Clubs’ Dinner - Wednesday 20 April
Area 12 of our District has 10 clubs: Adelaide, Adelaide Light, Adelaide Central, Adelaide Parks, Prospect, Regency Park and Walkerville Rotary as well as Adelaide City, Uni and Thebarton Senior College Rotaract.
Our Area 12 combined dinner is on Wednesday 20 April at the Adelaide Pavilion, South Terrace (6:30 for 7pm start, finish ~9:30). Please note the date change.
This relaxed, friendly and informal dinner includes partners and friends. The $55 ticket includes a 2 course meal and $5 donation to the Rotary Foundation. There's no official Guest Speaker - instead each Club will submit stories about ’My Best Rotary Moment'. Five people will be asked to share their five minute story about their best Rotary moment.

Chairman: Meet/greet speaker for the meeting; introduce and thank speaker. Preparation:- find details about the speaker prior to the meeting. Attendance: Set up reception table (attendance sheet; members list – re -payments; guest welcome sheet; money); register member payments/ apologies/ guests. Hosting: Welcome all at the door; ensure speaker and guests are introduced to appropriatepersons. Furniture: Flags; banner display; Rotary theme banner; gong and hammer; lectern position before and returned after the meeting. Computerset up – Connect to projector. Switch on. Hold function key & press F5 twice. Bottles/cans: Collect bags of bottles/cans at meeting and take to recycle centre for refund, pass refund to Bruce McDonald and empty bags to the next duty member, at the next meeting.
